Mark Enzer has been appointed as one of eight new members to the Council for Science and Technology (CST). The Council advises the Prime Minister and the Cabinet on strategic science and technology policy issues that cut across the responsibilities of individual government departments.
A strategic advisor at Mott MacDonald, Mark is also a visiting professor at the University of Cambridge and Imperial College London.
CST was established in 1993 as the government’s top-level advisory body on science and technology. CST is co-chaired by the Government chief scientific adviser and an independent chair and is formed of 19 independent members. The members are senior figures from the fields of science, engineering and technology and are appointed by the Prime Minister, in line with guidance from the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments.
Mark Enzer said: “The CST does hugely important work, providing advice on science, engineering, technology and mathematics. This is always important, but particularly now in our rapidly changing world. I’m very keen to do what I can to contribute”.
Professor Dame Angela McLean, the Government Chief Scientific Adviser and Co-Chair of CST, said: “The eight new members bring extraordinary breadth and depth of experience: from AI and data to chemical engineering and venture capital. I am confident that new members will further invigorate the Council and its ability to provide robust advice on the government’s high-level priorities for science and technology. I look forward to collaborating across a wide range of topics to further embed specialist knowledge of the UK’s strength in science and technology into the heart of government decision-making.”
