Transport planning

Connecting people and places.

The complexities of transport networks mean that for any major investment you need to fully understand the benefits and impacts and the extent to which it will meet people’s long-term needs.

Whether your focus is on an airport or railway line, an event or an entire city, transport planning expertise at an early stage will help you shape a well evidenced plan that is robust and that will get the travelling public and other stakeholders on board.

What can we do for you?

We can help you make well informed transport planning decisions, which will deliver the outcomes you want for your customers and communities.

We offer:

Structured decision making

We can help you clarify your core problem and desired outcomes, identify challenges and opportunities, explore the impacts of various options and make decisions about what solutions to deliver.

Thorough analysis

We use the best digital tools and models, drawing on the best available data and experience, and look at every angle of a problem to give you all the information and evidence you need for your plans.

Our experience

  • Active travel A23 route, Brighton and Hove, UK
We provided traffic modelling and carried out concept and preliminary designs for a new cycle route between the A27 and Brighton city centre, aiming to provide fully segregated cycle infrastructure while improving pedestrian facilities and public transport.
  • HS2, UK
In support of the business case for this nationally significant rail infrastructure project, we helped the client develop an integrated multimodal transport model that was used to assess the impact of HS2 on long distance and local rail networks, and on demand for long distance car and air travel. The integrated model was used to assess route and service options, inform public consultations and to develop multiple business cases on different phases of the scheme.
  • Metrolink Antelope Valley Line improvements, California, USA
We conducted a feasibility study on how to improve rail service on the busiest section of line between Los Angeles, Burbank and Glendale, studying the impact of adding new stations and expanding services, and supported LA Metro in securing US$107M in funding to proceed with three capital projects as well as a pilot programme to explore zero emissions vehicles in the heavily populated corridor.

  • Sydney Metro, Australia
As part of our wider role as an engineering design and assurance partner for the expansion of Sydney’s suburban metro system, we have provided pedestrian modelling and design coordination for many metro stations around Sydney.
