Systems engineering and assurance

Solving the systems puzzle.

Today’s large infrastructure projects are more complex than ever, with many physical, information and technological systems to be integrated and multiple stakeholders and organisations involved in delivery.

It’s critical that business and technical requirements are kept at the forefront, that the different parts interact effectively, and that safety, reliability and user requirements are checked at each stage along the way. Get it wrong, and projects could fail to deliver the results expected.

What can we do for you?

We help you take a logical and pragmatic approach to the design, integration and management of complex systems, providing assurance at each stage of your project to give you confidence that your assets will meet performance, safety and reliability objectives.

We provide:

Solutions tailored to your specific needs

We work to understand exactly what you want to achieve, then translate those desired outcomes into specific technical requirements that will be central to the design process.

Progressive assurance

We test and review the developing solutions against agreed metrics to give you confidence that things are on track.

A collaborative approach

We work seamlessly with different stakeholders, taking a positive attitude to problem solving.

Integration that works

Our systems expertise and attention to detail will help put the pieces of the puzzle together and create connected, lasting solutions.

Services we provide

Ensuring excellence through systems engineering and assurance

We provide systems engineering and progressive assurance for complex systems throughout the delivery of projects and programmes. We can contribute specialist expertise for a single stage of a project or take responsibility for systems integration throughout.

Our experience

Our systems engineers have worked on some of the world’s largest and most complex infrastructure projects across a range of sectors. Recent highlights include:

  • East Side Access, New York, USA
The Long Island Rail Road is the biggest commuter railroad system in the US, connecting commuters from Penn Station in Manhattan to Montauk, more than a hundred miles away at the eastern tip of Long Island. As tunnel consultant to the East Side Access project, we provided essential tunnelling expertise, including design review and expert advice on tunnel design and construction. Commuters from Queens and Long Island now save 30 to 40 minutes a day in travel.
  • Elizabeth Line, London, UK
As part of our multiple roles working on this major new railway, which crosses London from east to west, we helped integrate more than 50 operational and information systems to ensure synchronicity between stations, routeways, signalling and telecoms: all the systems that convert tunnels and stations into a functioning railway.
  • HS2, UK
For HS2, we are providing systems engineering and assurance on this highly complex and nationally significant high speed rail project. With design and construction proceeding in parallel and in different stages, the role is particularly complex and requires competent systems engineers to act as ‘guiding minds’, prevailing in the project at all levels.
  • Minerva Application Centre, Mol, Belgium
As part of our multidisciplinary design work on this facility housing a prototype nuclear reactor powered by a particle accelerator, we analysed the reliability of its systems to test its ability to run continuously and meet requirements once commissioned.
  • New Hospital Programme, UK
We are providing requirements management and integration services for this major programme to change the way new hospitals are delivered in England, using standardised designs and modern methods of construction.
  • Nuclear New Build Generation Company (NNB Genco), UK
Working for this subsidiary of EDF Energy, we carried out system safety assurance work for the major programme to build and then operate two new nuclear power stations in the UK, Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C.
