Overview of role
This is an appointment to support and grow Mott MacDonald’s Circular Economy service offering and join a team that’s developing an exciting, new service offering across the company. The role has long-term career potential, based in Mott MacDonald’s advisory unit.
The aim of this role is to build upon the successes of a cross-unit circular economy team that has been operating for the past three years. The current team is involved in several projects and has both strategic and operational responsibilities and the role would involve contributing to the further development of Mott MacDonald’s circular economy consultancy offer, while also working with stakeholders within the company about potential markets and key clients, and progressing project work.
The successful candidate will be responsible for working with various individuals around the company, who do circular economy work. You will be expected to develop with the role, as the circular economy workstream grows. You will have the following responsibilities:
- Support the Circular Economy Technical Director in building a Circular Economy offering in Mott MacDonald in collaboration with other Circular Economy professionals within the business.
- The successful candidate will work with others in the team in formulating a business strategy for circular economy consultancy in the EUNA region.
- Collaborate with existing technical teams across the business with expertise in carbon, waste, social value, energy and water.
- Assist with circular economy advice to the wider Mott MacDonald community, especially with regards to design and operations.
- Progress existing circular economy initiatives and build on relationships MM already has in this area.
- Along with other CE team members, provide technical input to Mott MacDonald’s marketing team to generate consistent and high-quality marketing materials and actively participate in marketing campaigns.
- Assist the circular economy Technical Director with positioning Mott MacDonald in the market and present a broad view of the company’s capabilities.
- Work with operational and business leaders to embed circular economy thinking into bidding and project work across the business.
- Assist the circular economy Technical Director to proactively pursue opportunities, maintaining good relations with relevant client organisations and partners, and responding to their needs.
- Support sharing of knowledge and experience, both within the team as well as the wider Group.
- The role will report the circular economy Technical Director in Mott MacDonald’s advisory unit and will be part of a growing community of decarbonisation, climate and sustainability experts.
- You will operate initially at strategic, and later on at project levels as well, possess excellent inter-personal skills to engage with our team and clients, and demonstrate innovation to inspire our clients in responding to today’s and tomorrow’s global climate change challenges.
Candidate Specification
Key skills, minimum qualifications and experience:
- A degree in Environmental Science, Engineering Science, Materials Science/Chemistry, Sustainability Studies, Architecture or a related field.
- Passion for circular economy, sustainability and technology.
- A good understanding of the origins of CE, its scope and purpose.
- Basic familiarity with circular economy metrics, assessment and benchmarking systems.
- An understanding of the design process and lifecycle of project in the construction industry.
- Awareness of UK and European circular economy policy drivers, legislation and best practice.
- Experience in the design, implementation and management of projects in the field of circular economy.
- A cross-sectoral understanding of circular economy principles and ability to apply this thinking creatively across different projects.
- Good understanding of material flows and supply chains in the construction sector.
- Experience of developing and contributing to bids and managing projects.
- Sound commercial understanding and desire to operate within a dynamic commercial environment.
- Fluency in written and oral English - additional language capabilities will be appreciated.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and demonstrated strong time-management skills.
- Ability to self-direct, multitask, and prioritise constantly evolving workload.
- Excellent organisational, motivational and management skills.
Desired qualifications
- Clear, concise writing style and experience in writing for a different audiences.
- Demonstrated experience working in an international, multicultural and diverse environment, with collaborative approach and working across sectoral and regional boundaries.
- Chartered (or working towards chartership) with a relevant professional body.
