Thanks to an expanding project portfolio Mott MacDonald Canada has a new opportunity for an experienced Bridge Engineer with complementary digital expertise, to join us as our Structures Technical Lead. This person will take a leadership role within our dynamic and growing bridges and underground structures teams, building overall digital capacity while working on important and charismatic infrastructure projects at all scales; locally, nationally, and globally. 
  
As the Structures Technical Lead, your responsibilities will include: 
  

  • Demonstrating behaviors that promote our Purpose and align with our PRIDE values.

  • Visible structures and digital technical leadership with internal and external representation. 
  • Leading the deployment of relevant digital technologies on bridges and underground structures design construction projects, including but not limited to identification of opportunities, execution planning and development of workflows. 

 

As a structural engineering principal: 

  • Deliver projects of varying size and scope, overseeing the development of safe, efficient, and innovative structural solutions—including design, analysis, calculations, and documentation in accordance with standard practices, codes, and standards. 
  • Overseeing on-site structural works, including liaison with statutory bodies, government bodies, affected parties, consultants and contractors. 
  • Motivating, mentoring, coaching colleagues to achieve their technical goals and objectives and providing constructive feedback to help them improve. 
  • Organizing tasks to balance the needs of people, projects and clients, and delegating tasks effectively when needed.   
  • Supporting the Team and Group leads with resource management resourcing and utilization. 
  • Supporting the Team and Group leads with recruitment and management of bridges staff. 
  • Advising the Team and Group leads on compensation, recognition, and development opportunities for bridges staff. 

 
Candidate Specifications 

  • Passion for innovation, technology, and advancing the state of structural engineering practice. 
  • Leadership aptitude; demonstrating people-related responsibilities, strong communication and collaboration skills, ability to guide diverse teams. 
  • Management aptitude; ability to set relevant goals and implement plans. 
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) status with EGBC 
  • A strong academic background, with a bachelor’s level degree in Structural Engineering (a master’s degree would be considered an asset) 
  • Approximately 15 years of relevant industry / project experience (experience designing bridges and civil structures to Canadian codes of practice would be considered an asset) 
  • Expertise with one or more relevant digital technologies—scripting, data analytics, computational design, automation, visualization, reality capture, etc.  
  • Nuanced understanding of digital technology applications to structural engineering practice and project delivery including motivators, success factors, opportunities and risks. 
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills; able to collaborate effectively with all colleagues, partners, and clients involved in project delivery . 
  • Strong technical skills associated with the design of bridges and underground structures. 
  •  Ability to supervise the work of others, including check and approval of key deliverables. 
  • Enthusiasm for teaching, mentoring and coaching others in their professional and technical development.

In compliance with the B.C. Pay Transparency Act, the expected salary range is from $120 000 - $180 000
Multiple factors such as qualifications, overall experience and position responsibilities will be used to determine the successful candidate's actual salary within the expected range.
