As the Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will have responsibility to manage Client’s and Mott MacDonald obligations on various interesting clean and waste water and environmental projects. As part of a Core Team within the Environment and Water Portfolio, you will work closely with the wider Advisory Project and Programme management teams to manage the project deliverables to the Client expectations. You will demonstrate a passion to work collaboratively with our client teams to deliver their complex projects to time, cost and quality with a commitment to safety. You will drive innovation of our service delivery and provide advice to the team and an integrated client. You will take ownership of and responsibility for the successful delivery of your projects, identifying and monitoring project risks and opportunities, managing stakeholders taking account of their levels of influence and particular interests and ensuring good project governance.

 

Required for the position of Senior Quantity Surveyor

  • Quantity Surveying degree or other commercially related discipline or relevant extensive experience in Programme and Project commercial pre and post contract activities, including all activities associated with Cost Management
  • Ideally Chartered MRICS or working towards chartered status (MRICS) and a commitment to CPD (Continuing Professional Development)
  • Extensive experience in setting and implementing procurement strategies, developing and executing the procurement strategy including the running of tenders and advising the project team on the development of contract conditions and amendments, particularly NEC
  • Demonstrable experience in Commercial and Cost standards and procedures, along with highly developed commercial skills and demonstratable ability to make sound decision on matters of significant financial value
  • Previous experience of commercial management and administration of a wide range of contracts, and all aspects associated with the writing, placing and administration of contracts, particularly NEC contracts and experience in using CEMAR (Contract Event Management and Reporting) or similar
  • Contract and procurement advice, cost analysis, due diligence, cost control, forecasting and monitoring, cost reporting activities and post contract management on projects, programmes and D & B contracts, to ensure deliverability within the funding envelope and compliance with all governance
  • Experience in developing a Commercial and Cost Team including establishing clear roles, responsibilities, and accountabilities
  • Building and managing strong client and stakeholder relationship skills and establish effective communications across the project delivery, client, supply chain and stakeholder teams 
  • Excellent IT skills, oral and written communication, organisation skills and good analytical thinking
  • Flexibility in work location, potential travel required 2-3 times weekly depending on project 

 

Preferred, but not required

  • Experience in the water, environment and regulated industries 
  • Ability to operate both autonomously and as a part of a larger multi-disciplinary team providing commercial support
  • Preferred experience in using electronic measurement systems and other cost and contract management tools

Environment & water  

Our multidisciplinary experts help water, wastewater, and government organisations find sustainable, cost-effective solutions to the challenges of climate change, net-zero, water scarcity and environmental protection.    

We work with around half of the UK’s regulated water and wastewater companies, and our work stretches across the entire project lifecycle - from pre-contract cost estimating and benchmarking, to post-contract quantity surveying and commercial assurance.   

For project and programme management, we deliver capital projects on behalf of our clients, both internal and external that range from several hundred thousand pounds in value to major projects and programmes worth over £0.5bn.
