Our Digital Technology & Systems team (DTS) is part of TMS, focused on delivering software, services, and digital solutions for our clients in the Highways market and beyond.  We work with central, regional, and local government organisations, in addition to arm’s length transportation asset owners and private sector organisations.  We help them ensure transportation is safe, efficient, accessible, and sustainable.  We specialise in a variety of disciplines across the Intelligent Transportation Sector, including software development, data engineering, operational technology and connected and autonomous mobility.  We are an ambitious team of technologist on a path to growth – come and join us! 

 

About the role 

We are recruiting for an experienced Senior Traffic Signals Engineer who will help lead, the delivery of our existing portfolio of work and build on the continuing success and growth of our business in the Engineering and Consulting team. This role will provide support to the Traffic Signals team members in the UK and abroad, and will also develop the team. You will play an important role in delivering a wide range of high-profile traffic engineering projects and to further build our business.

The Senior ITS Engineer (Traffic Signals) position supports the end-to-end service model from concept through design to delivery and then into maintenance. It includes support to, and the delivering of, traffic signals, ITS & technology projects for varied clients, including Strategic Transport bodies, Sub-National and Regional entities, and Local Highway Authorities.

 

You will report to the Traffic Signals Team Leader, and be responsible for supervising the successful and efficient delivery of Traffic Signals work within the Engineering and Consulting Team, supporting and leading activities and tasks including: scoping, development, delivery, construction, maintenance and co-ordination of our portfolio of traffic signals projects across the business. This list is not exhaustive and other activities may be required according to ongoing project work and Engineering and Consulting team requirements.

 

You will have a breadth of previous experience within a similar role in Traffic Signals and successfully delivering projects to time, cost, and quality. You will also have extensive experience of the co-ordination of the design process. In-depth experience of all aspects of traffic signal engineering from feasibility and preliminary design through to commissioning will be key within this role.

 

You will have significant use and knowledge of modelling software such as LinSig. Extensive experience in specification and programming of microprocessor traffic signal controllers and the specification, and validation, of all signals modes, including UTC/SCOOT and MOVA systems is required.

 

Extensive knowledge of working with engineering software packages such as AutoCAD, is critical. You will also have experience with supervising other team members, this may include mentoring, support, training, and general guidance within their day-to-day activities. You will be a member of a professional body (e.g. IHE, CIHT, IET). The ability to travel and the flexibility to work from different offices/locations on occasion would be beneficial.

 

Essential

  • Extensive previous experience in traffic signals engineering.
  • Experience of coordination of traffic signals designs.
  • Extensive experience of traffic modelling software.
  • Experience of specification and programming of traffic signals controllers, and all signals modes.
  • Significant experience of working with engineering software packages such as AutoCAD and KeySignals.
  • Experience of mentoring and/or supervising other team members.
  • Membership of a professional body.

 

Desirable:

  • Previous line management experience. There is potential to line manage staff depending on which Mott MacDonald office the role is based in. To be discussed at interview stage.
  • Experience of working with multi-disciplinary teams, and teams in other parts of the world.
  • Ability to travel, and flexibility to work from different offices/locations on occasion.
