The Senior Internal Communications Manager for the European region’s internal communications (IC) strategy workstream establishes business unit IC strategies that align to and resolve business needs.  

 

This involves being a key IC strategy consultant that manages relationships with key stakeholders, regional business units and global IC teams to identify business needs and develop IC strategies and plans that drive positive business outcomes. 

 

Working within the IC team for Europe, you will report into the IC Lead for Europe, collaborate across functions and business units, and lead the IC strategy workstream’s service to the region’s Advisory and Programme Delivery (APD), Energy (EEN) and Water and Environment (WNE) business units.  

 

This role will also see you regularly work with the regional marketing and creative teams and wider IC function within the region and at global level.  

 

This will be a fixed term contract to cover maternity leave

 

Job description 

 

Consultancy for business units 

  • Be the Internal Communications strategy lead and key stakeholder IC contact for multiple business units.  
  • Be strategic IC consultant to unit marketing and communications leads, working closely to know and address unit IC needs. 
  • Address requests from the business units, know project requirements and interpret briefs into communications and engagement strategies.   
  • Explore how changes will be received by those unit audiences. 
  • Advise the business (leaders, units, functions) on the most effective and engaging ways to communicate with unit audiences by knowing how their perspectives align with the region’s strategic goals.  
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders and colleagues across the region and the wider business.  
  • Listen to changing needs and adapt IC strategic approach accordingly. 
  • Team up with the regional marketing and global IC teams to make sure regional IC strategies align with global priorities, timings and messages. 

 

Project delivery for business units 

  • Accountable for ensuring that the right resource is in place to deliver unit project/campaigns and that they’re delivered to unit expectations and deadlines.  
  • Accountable for making sure workstream produces best quality communications and engagement strategies for its business units. 
  • Design unit behavioural change initiatives with clear and consistent communication throughout the region and manage internal communications during crises. 
  • Ensure the needs and perspectives of key audiences are built into internal communication activities. 
  • Ensure unit messaging and IC activities are consistent with our business plan and values. 
  • Set out scoring and measurement strategies and report back results to unit stakeholders. 
  • Team up with, brief and instruct the IC and creative functions on potential unit campaign and project deliverables, monitor their development and progress and provide regular feedback, advice, consultation and ‘even better ifs’.  
  • Engage with the business (functions, unit and key audiences) and regional IC function to establish priorities and changes. 
  • Strengthen the workstream by developing plans for workshops, delivery, key messaging and communications.  
  • Devise research strategies to inform engagement and communication strategies and contribute towards data collections. 

 

Team contribution 

  • Work with other Senior Internal Communications Manager to prioritise and assign unit team tasks. 
  • Shape and guide the ways in which the workstream interacts with units. 
  • Establish and contribute best practice and facilitate learning from workstream activities with regional IC teams. 
  • Encourage professional development and contribute learning. 
  • Demonstrate good cybersecurity, wellbeing and safety behaviours and practices.

  • Know the perspectives of different audiences. 
  • Excellent speaking, writing and presentation skills, storytelling, and people-centred communications.  
  • Communicate effectively and proactively with different stakeholders, including executive, technical and creative teams. 
  • Able to push back and have open conversations with stakeholders on best practice, what makes engaging copy, and truly know storytelling standards. 
  • Highly organised and able to work with multiple stakeholders and colleagues on a variety of tasks simultaneously and keep stakeholders informed about progress. 
  • Self-starting and resourceful with the confidence and ability to undertake tasks and goals, see them through to completion with minimal guidance. 
  • An eye for detail – able to deliver high-quality outputs and outcomes whilst under time pressures. 
  • Resilient to adapting to changes. 
  • Flexibility of working to adapt to shifting priorities, demands and timelines.

Desired 

  • University degree, college diploma or similar experience in a communications or marketing area.  
  • Qualification or certification from a relevant body such as IOIC or CIPR 
  • English to ‘A’ Level standard.  
  • Experience of working in a similar role. 
  • Asks thoughtful questions to test themselves and others. 
  • Observant and reflective. 
  • Able to learn, know, and apply new technologies. 
  • Fully conversant with Microsoft Office 365.
