The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across several sectors including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation and transmission & distribution networks. Together we provide integrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle – from concept and design to construction and operations, to decommissioning or repowering and life extension. Overview of role 
Mott MacDonald are currently seeking a Senior electrical Engineer to join our growing renewable energy team in  Europe. The senior electrical engineer will provide electrical engineering support in the delivery of owner’s engineer roles on large scale on and offshore renewable energy projects. This may involve wind, solar, battery and hybrid projects.

Duties and responsibilities of the successful candidate will include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting project managers and project principals as part of multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Providing electrical engineering technical input into projects at various stages (from feasibility to preliminary and detailed design, construction and operational stages)
  • Undertake technical reviews of electrical engineering design documentation and report on findings; including the review of drawings, system studies prepared by third parties and grid connection agreements
  • Undertake feasibility and concept level electrical designs for renewable projects
  • Liaison with transmission and or distribution companies before and during the construction of renewable energy projects to discuss technical electrical aspects of grid connections
  • Contribute to the preparation of technical reports, specifications and employer’s requirements to a high-quality standard including application of relevant standards in different jurisdictions
  • Attend project sites to coordinate and witness testing and commissioning activities
  • Attend factory acceptance testing for electrical equipment and provide technical reporting on observations
  • Attend project sites to perform quality assurance inspections of electrical equipment during the installation phase
  • Undertake high level reviews of SCADA and C&I systems for renewable energy projects
  • Ability to work on international projects and understand and manage country and region-specific factors
  • Flexibility to travel internationally on a regular basis
  • Contribute to the preparation of proposals and/or cost estimates for renewable energy projects
  • Contribute to the tender preparation and assessment process for owner’s engineer projects
  • Support in the management of interfaces between the main contractors
  • Support clients and project managers in successfully resolving contractor claims
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients
  • Review/monitor contractors’ progress against programme and monitor the progress relating to key project milestones
  • Contribute to regular project meetings, communications and reports to the project manager and/or principal and client contacts, which provide accurate and timely information to support their understanding of strategic risks, issues, opportunities, impacts and progress
  • Manage and actively identify all critical risks, issues and impacts of the project specifically the adequate application of and adherence to both statutory and corporate health, safety and environmental requirements

  

  
Candidate Specification
 

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering
  • Chartered engineering status with a professional body (preferred)
  • Have a keen interest in the rapidly changing energy sector
  • Thorough understanding of the grid connection process for renewable projects
  • Written and oral interpersonal skills (English) to communicate with colleagues and clients
  • Understanding of current and relevant health and safety regulations, good industry practice and engineering standards
  • Understanding of quality plans and Inspection Test Plans for electrical works
  • Ability to interpret electrical system studies and define key risks
  • Tenacity, persistence and determination to succeed
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, operating confidently in supporting project teams
  • Ability to communicate effectively with project teams, stakeholders (including contractors) and clients
  • Understanding of commercial contracts and negotiations
  • Experience in owner’s engineer or detail engineering roles
  • Understanding of technical due diligence process
  • Ability to work effectively to deliver required outputs in a timely manner as part of a wider project team
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Ability to work on numerous projects during the same period
