Main Purpose of the Job:

Mott MacDonald is expanding its coastal engineering capabilities in the Middle East and is seeking a highly motivated Senior Coastal Engineer to join our team in the UAE. As part of a global community of problem solvers, we collaborate and champion each other to excel. Trusted to deliver and take responsibility, our land development team encompasses disciplines such as mobility, utilities, sustainability, environment, and waste. Our offer ranges from technical due diligence, through master planning and infrastructure design to site supervision. We deliver across our global teams, but our focus markets are the UAE and KSA.
 

This role offers an opportunity to contribute to major coastal infrastructure and numerical modeling projects while working alongside a multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will have strong experience in the design of coastal structures and numerical modeling. Typical projects include major master planning and infrastructure design for coastal structures, breakwaters, harbors and marinas, shoreline protection and stabilization, beaches, and numerical modeling studies.

 

Key responsibilities and duties are listed, but not limited to, the below:

  • Support in all coastal elements on projects.
  • Guide and lead junior coastal engineers within the team.
  • Support account leaders and territory sector leaders to win and deliver work.
  • Perform engineering analysis and design with a focus on coastal and maritime infrastructure of recreational, commercial, and industrial facilities.
  • Develop calculations, reports, drawings, specifications, and tender documents.
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals, budget estimates, and scopes of work.

 

Candidate specifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine/Coastal/Civil Engineering
  • Master’s degree in relevant subjects is a plus
  • Experience of working in the Middle East and UAE.
  • Chartership with relevant body or working toward an equivalent professional qualification
  • Experience with design and coordination of marine and coastal projects. This includes - but not limited to – dredging, reclamation, breakwaters, marinas, coastal structures, beaches, processes and shoreline stabilization studies, ramps, piles structures, intakes and outfalls, quay walls.
  • Strong experience with met-ocean studies including statistical analysis of wind, waves and water levels.
  • Strong knowledge of numerical modelling for marine application. Strong experience in numerical modeling (MIKE21, Delft3D) and will be capable of delivering wave transformation, agitation, hydrodynamics, flushing, sediment/brine dispersion, and shoreline evolution studies.
  • Knowledgeable of codes and standards applicable to his own area of expertise and able to undertake independent research when required
  • Excellent communication skills, both internally and externally with connected thinking
  • Excellent report-writing ability: the candidate will be required to be responsible for the production of technical reports as well as technical proposal in his/her area of expertise.
  • Sound commercial abilities: the candidate will be required to support with estimate fees for undertaking marine design works and have ability to work within budget and program.
  • Team player: it is expected that the candidate has excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to lead more junior staff.
  • Willingness to travel within the region to interface with clients and /or other teams as required
