About the business unit:
The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across several sectors including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation and transmission & distribution networks. Together we provide integrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle – from concept and design to construction and operations, to decommissioning or repowering and life extension. Together with our clients, we’re helping to deliver the energy transition globally. 

 

About the role:
Our office-based department provides Civil and Structural expertise across Substation, HVDC Converter Station, Overhead Line, and Cable projects. We are looking for a Civil Engineer with minimum five to eight years of experience to join our Digital Award winning High Voltage (HV) Civil and Structural Team based in Genova, Italy, Madrid, Spain or Belgrade, Serbia. The role will span a diverse portfolio of work and there will be opportunities for advancement within the team. 
The selected candidate will carry out work on HV Substation, HVDC Converter Station, Overhead Line and Cable projects, fulfilling tasks including:
Design and Development functions:

  • Project Management.
  • Proposal Writing.
  • Scheme Costing.
  • Front End Engineering Design (FEED).
  • Preparation of drawings for use in planning applications and tender packages.
  • Detailed Civil Design: drawings, cross-sections, and 3D models
  • Design Coordination across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Preparation of Specifications.
  • Condition and Structural Assessment of existing structures to determine suitability for reuse.
  • Technical background in hydraulic analysis such as: transmission pipelines, hydraulic design of water and wastewater treatment works, stormwater storage design.
  • Experienced in development of hydraulic calculations and hydraulic profiles for water and wastewater treatment works.
  • Technical knowledge on sustainable drainage management and flood management, how to adapt our infrastructure to meet the challenges of a changing climate.
  • Water quality systems design (construction and operational design considering oil/silt contaminants)

 

Candidate specification: 

  • At the outset we would expect some experience in all named areas but, should your application be successful, you will have the opportunity to learn from other team members and to further develop your skills.
  • Willingness to engage with new challenges as well as an ability to work confidently on tasks for which they have prior experience.
  • Demonstrate good written communication skills including report writing.
  • Excellent communication and people skills. You will be in a client facing role and will be expected to liaise with clients and contractors both on-site and over the phone.
  • Degree in Civil engineering. They should also be a Chartered Engineer or be working towards applying chartership now.
  • Prepared to undertake leadership role and assist in further development of the team.
  • Previous experience as an Engineer working with Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Networks in high voltage substations and cable routing projects would be an advantage.
  • Detailed knowledge of construction health and safety regulations and preferably, although not essential, knowledge of transmission network operator’s construction practices.
  • Awareness of process, equipment layout and associated considerations such as RFI
