About the role 
Our electrical Transmission & Distribution business has offices in the UK, Ireland, Serbia and Spain. We now have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Electrical Engineer to help us build an electrical engineering design team in our office in Sofia, Bulgaria, with support from our UK & Ireland team. The successful candidate will lead the development of this team locally, to work on a range of diverse industry leading projects developing innovative solutions for power transmission grid systems and for client transmission installations ensuring security of electricity supply, developing the integration of renewable energy sources and bringing large power infrastructural plans from concept to delivery stage.  

 

 

 

 

Job Description: 

 

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Electrical Engineer with strong background in the power transmission industry to act as Team Leader and provide technical leadership for this role.  

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Build and grow an electrical engineering design team in Sofia working collaboratively with the Energy Network management team. 
  • Lead and manage transmission OHL design projects, ensuring compliance with international standards, and delivering innovative solutions to meet client objectives. 
  • Deliver studies in specialist areas such as line and foundation design, tower spotting, sag -tension, plan and profile, conductor selection, structural design of lattice towers, structural design of steel poles and wood pole design; 
  • Prepare, review and manage specifications, schedule, BOQ’s and other design documentation for power transmission OHL projects; 
  • Ensure OHL design project submissions comply with relevant legislation, standards, policies, and procedures. 
  • Chair meetings, communicate effectively with project teams, and produce comprehensive reports. 
  • Mentor and support junior electrical engineering staff, promoting a high standard of professionalism and effective communication. 
  • Manage an engineering design team that will work with our wider Transmission & Distribution to deliver design projects for transmission (110kV to 400kV) substations projects and transmission cable projects (onshore and offshore). 
  • Apply regulatory and client-specific health and safety requirements to HV system designs. 
  • Prepare technical reports in English. 

 

About You: 

  • BSc or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent. 
  • Chartership with recognised accredited body (e.g. IET) 
  • Strong experience working in the power transmission and distribution industry; Experience with specific understanding of the UK utility transmission desirable.  
  • Experience in managing an electrical engineering design team. 
  • Extensive experience in an OHL engineering environment, including significant project and design management experience. 
  • Familiarity with engineering design software, including PLS-CADD, PLS-Tower, PLS-Pole, and AutoCAD. 
  • Strong knowledge of British and International Standards and Codes of Practice for OHL transmission design and for transmission engineering design. 
  • Familiarity with HSE and CDM regulations, and ability to perform risk assessments. 
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment. 
  • Proactive, with a proven track record of scheme delivery and client satisfaction. 
  • Experience in all stages of a project lifecycle.
