Mott MacDonald continues to evolve its market portfolio as it drives forward with its programme of targeted growth, both organic and in-organic.
This is a new strategic role within our Group Business Services team reporting to the Group Strategy Manager. This role will bring additional capacity to the current team to support on the full range of strategic activity, with a specific focus on mergers & acquisition activity being undertaken across the global business interests of Mott MacDonald.

Key Responsibilities 
You will engage across the full range of our M&A activity including:

 

  • Pre-market preparation of business cases for both buy-side and sell-side opportunities
  • Proactively support and where appropriate lead on due diligence activity
  • Engage in the commercial negotiation to conclude M&A transactions.
  • Support the post completion activity to deliver on business case objectives
  • Undertaken downstream reviews to identify opportunities for improvement. 
  • Project manage the M&A process from inception to completion. 
  • Prepare business cases, including financial models, and present these to senior stakeholders.

 

In addition, you will also have the opportunity to engage the incremental strategic change needed to deliver our ambitions for growth, focus and efficiency. This will include:

  • Running diagnostic programmes and helping to craft solutions in areas of strategic interest both externally and internally,
  • Using a wide range of data sources, and designing and putting in place programmes to provide assurance of our performance trends.  
  • Engagement with Regional leadership teams to understand local market context and dynamics

Essential Criteria 

  • Good analytical and lateral thinking skills, an ability to interrogate and synthesise findings from internal and external data, an open and curious mind, objectivity, openness to multiple perspectives
  • Mergers and Acquisition experience as demonstrated by deal track record 
  • Excellent negotiation skills – ability to quickly build rapport, credibility, and trust at a Senior Level
  • Sound commercial judgement and an ability to generate creative solutions to problems and 'think on your feet';
  • Demonstrate strong financial acumen and a solid understanding of financial statements;

Candidate Specification

 

  • The individual will have an understanding of typical M&A processes, ideally with some relevant experience of both buyer-side and seller-side transactions.
  • They will have demonstrated the ability to operate in a complex and highly confidential environment and able to balance competing commercial demands.
  • They will be good at forming professional and productive rapport with a wide range of stakeholders. They will be keen to acquire new knowledge to understand the core commercial and risk concerns of how Mott MacDonald operates.
  • They will be comfortable in sourcing, compiling and synthesising information for reporting to the highest levels within Mott MacDonald.
  • Degree level qualified or relevant equivalent.
  • Further post-graduate qualifications in related disciplines would be an advantage.
