Mott MacDonald's growing Environmental practice supports our business across Canada with expertise in range of specialties. As our team expands in-line with our corporate strategy, our project demands are ever-growing.  Our projects include a diverse portfolio supporting our transportation, transit and energy teams. Our Canadian offices are in Toronto, Vancouver, and Calgary. In addition to both leading and supporting projects in Canada, we support the delivery of projects for Mott MacDonald's clients across the US and globally.  As a result of our continued growth and project success, Mott Macdonald is excited to seek an Environmental Lead to join us and lead environmental planning and management across our projects in Eastern Canada.  

 

This is a senior level, high profile role where the successful professional will be responsible for developing and establishing the team leadership strategy, in collaboration with Mott’s regional Environment Leads in Canada, to promote team growth, development and technical excellence.  
 

As the Eastern Canada Environment Lead, your key responsibilities will include:  
 

  • Establishing internal and external client relationships and developing opportunities for Mott MacDonald’s environmental services.  

  • Offering strategic advice on environmental growth initiatives and business planning  

  • Acting as a technical expert and provide advice and solutions to meet the client’s requirements.  

  • Assuming responsibility for project delivery including time, cost, coordination, and stakeholder management.  

  • Directly participating in the growth of teams responsible for the delivery of environmental scopes of services including, but not limited to:   

  • Site environmental management plans and associated documentation;  

  • Authoring and reviewing of various environmental regulatory and permit submittals;   

  • Environmental Management System development, implementation, and maintenance;  

  • Delivery of expertise for various environment subject matters;  

  • Regulatory consultation and engagement with interested parties.   

  • Preparing proposals, cost estimates, and staffing plans for environmental projects and programs.  

 

Education, skills, and experience to succeed in this role include:  
 

  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited institution. A master’s degree would be an advantage.  

  • A minimum of 15 years of experience as an environmental professional working on infrastructure and energy projects.   

  • Experience in the permitting of large-scale, multi-disciplinary projects; experience with transportation, transit and power infrastructure projects is an asset.  

  • The ability to prepare and interpret complex reports, recognize problems, and define and evaluate solutions.  

  • Experience in business management and strategic business development.  

  • Strong written and oral communication skills including the communication of complex technical information to non-technical audiences;   

  • A proactive, results-oriented outlook coupled with exceptional teamwork and communication skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision.  

  • Registered Professional Planner designation preferred 

  • Experience with Municipal Class Environmental Assessments, Toronto and Region Conservation Authority permitting and other Ontario-based and federal environmental regulatory requirements and processes.
