Mott MacDonald

We’re a global engineering, management, and development consultancy.
Our purpose is to improve society by considering social outcomes in everything we do, relentlessly focusing on excellence and digital innovation, transforming our clients’ businesses, our communities and employee opportunities.

A fundamental part of this is respecting each person’s differences and striving to meet their needs.

Our values: Progress, Respect, Integrity, Drive, Excellence.

About the business unit:

The Buildings and Cities Unit (BNC) has a major presence in Mott MacDonald's regional offices throughout the UK and mainland Europe, providing a wide range of diverse and transferable cross-sector skills across five key Sectors; Advisory, Built Environment, Energy, Transportation and Water. We also provide local services to customers and technical leadership to the rest of the Group in these sectors.

About the role:

We’re looking for a Consultant to join our team and work on international projects from our Dutch offices. If you have ambitions to work in the field of Digital Signalling, this could be the role for you.

At Mott MacDonald, we value teamwork, knowledge sharing, and a flexible mindset. In this role, you’ll play an active part in delivering projects and helping us win new ones. Depending on the needs of the project, you may work directly with clients on-site or as part of a team from our Utrecht or Arnhem offices.

Mott MacDonald in Netherlands has built a strong reputation for our expertise in “Digital Signalling,” which includes modern rail safety systems like CBTC and ETCS.

Our team, based in Utrecht, works on projects all over the world, as well as locally in the Netherlands and Belgium. We’ve recently taken on exciting projects in Toronto, Melbourne, Washington, London, and the Netherlands. Looking ahead, we expect to be involved in projects in New York, Sydney, and Brussels. While many of our projects are managed from the Netherlands, occasional site visits are part of the role. In some cases, there may also be opportunities to work with Mott MacDonald teams in other countries, either on a short-term or long-term basis. From the Netherlands, we regularly provide critical expertise to projects in Australia, Canada, the UK, and the USA. These projects involve close collaboration with our global offices, local partners, and clients.

About you:

We’re interested in candidates who meet the following criteria:

  • Degree qualified in a technical field or equivalent education and work experience.
  • Knowledge of or experience with European Train Control Systems (ETCS) or Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC).
  • A flexible and collaborative approach to working with colleagues in the Netherlands and abroad.
  • Strong communication skills  (spoken and written).
  • Fluency in Dutch and English (spoken and written).
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
  • Open to occasional travelling when required.
