Biography

Describe what the Mott Mac Life means to you in three words

Engineering, innovation, partnerships

What do you enjoy about working here?

I enjoy working here because the business fosters a collaborative environment and encourages creativity and professional growth, while allowing me to contribute to meaningful projects.

Tell us about your career so far

I started my career in 2002 as an electrician. I then moved into electrical design, and then decided to pursue a career in the engineering project management world. I’ve spent most of my career in the defence and nuclear markets, with a brief dip into the pharmaceuticals industry.

I joined Mott MacDonald in 2013 in the UK at a very exciting time for the business. We were about to start work in HMNB Clyde, Faslane, and it was the perfect time for me to take the next step in my career. Starting as an electrical project engineer, I have progressed to a technical director by taking on more responsibility and leading more in-depth and complex projects.

I am now based in Australia, and specialise in defence and nuclear approval processes, while leading the design teams through production and endorsement of specialist design solutions.

What have you learnt while working at Mott MacDonald?

Collaboration is a fundamental element of any successful project. When leading bigger and larger projects, you soon realise that you cannot work alone, and you need to encourage the development of the team through all different specialisations.

Not one single person knows everything!

How do you contribute to Mott MacDonald making a difference to people and the planet?

I strive to make a meaningful difference for both people and the planet by prioritising sustainable practices through design. This includes implementing design solutions to capture carbon savings. By actively seeking opportunities for continuous improvements and innovation, and staying up to date with industry trends, we support the delivery of technically excellent projects that benefit both the community, and the plant.

Where in the world has your role taken you?

Australia, United Kingdom, Belgium

What are your career highlights and achievements?

As I never took the traditional route through university, my career achievements were to go to university and get my degree in Engineering. This proves that going straight into university study after school is not the only route you can take to become successful.

My career highlights;

  • Leading a team that successfully installed and commissioned the 60Hz high voltage system for the new class of submarine.
  • Successful design and installation of a new seismic monitoring system.
  • Taking on a role as senior project manager for a refurbishment project leading a team of about 50 design engineers.
  • Delivering a new radioactive processing facility for the Royal Navy
