Biography

What do you enjoy about working here?

There are two key things that jump out. The diverse variety and the culture. I get to experience all types of projects in an organisation this size - from major construction and engineering contracts to facilities management contracts associated with maintaining the infrastructure on the site. Despite the size, the culture feels like a “family firm” because of the way Mott MacDonald support their employees through all aspects of their professional and personal life.

Tell us about your specialism and why you chose it

Quantity surveying is not just about “counting bricks” it develops a variety of skills and specialisms depending on where you want to focus your efforts e.g. you can develop your technical knowledge, focus on contractual issues, or develop the commercial aspects of contract and project management. It was this opportunity to diversify that was the main reason for initially choosing “QS`ing”.

Describe what the Mott Mac Life means to you in three words

Supportive, encouraging, rewarding

How has Mott MacDonald invested in your career?

Mott MacDonald have supported my ongoing professional development, including my diversification into dispute resolution and mediation, as well as supporting my role as project director where I have undertaken training to develop other important skills through the ‘Managing People for Excellence programme’.

What have you learnt while working at Mott MacDonald?

Embrace and encourage the diversification around you.  You will become a better version of you by understanding the opportunity it provides from both a personal and professional perspective.

What are your career highlights and achievements?

Seeing and encouraging people, like work placement students, to develop both personally and in the workplace is incredibly rewarding. I’ve been able to support them to develop and grow within the business to become future leaders with the responsibility to take the business forward. This was recognised when I was awarded the RICS Mentor of the Year an achievement I still recognise today.
