Biography

Describe what the Mott Mac Life means to you in three words

Success, ambition, collaboration

What do you enjoy about working here?

One element is the people. I enjoy working with colleagues that are world class in our industry and meeting new people from many cultures. Aside from this, having opportunities, and stretching my capabilities to realise skills I never thought I’d have is really fulfilling.

Out of all aspects of my roles so far, I have enjoyed project engineering and design management, the most.

Tell us about your specialism and why you chose it

I would say I didn’t choose my sector; it rather chose me. After graduating I wouldn’t have thought I would end up in the railway industry but here I am still. My discipline has been in the traction power space; however, I have worked in multiple areas both within and outside the team so have been lucky to experience different areas of the business. If I was to put down a specialism, I would say in recent times, earthing and bonding. I do also have a great deal of electrical substation and power-detailed design experience and as mentioned above, enjoy design management and engineering management roles.

How has your career progressed since joining? / How has Mott MacDonald invested in your career?

I joined Mott MacDonald through our UK graduate programme. I was lucky to not only be enrolled on the standard skills development programme, but also to attend technical conferences and training funded by the business.

Furthermore, following chartership, I took on line management duties and have since taken on more leadership positions within the team. I have tried to seek opportunities but have also been supported at every turn to help deliver to the best of my ability.

What have you learnt while working at Mott MacDonald?

Following our values at Mott MacDonald in every project, means you will always learn something and doing a great job leads to opportunities for growth. I have met and been trusted to build networks with many clients and feel trust and honesty goes a long way in this business.

Where in the world has your role taken you?

I was fortunate to travel to Switzerland a few years ago to support one of our clients. Other than that, I have worked on UK projects so haven’t had far to travel. I have worked remotely on projects in Australia, not involving travel, which suited me as I am not a big fan of snakes and spiders.
