Vineyard Wind, a joint venture of Avangrid Renewables and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, announced that the company's first project, Vineyard Wind 1, is the first commercial-scale offshore wind farm in the US to achieve financial close.

Mott MacDonald provided critical development support for this 800-megawatt project, located 15 miles off the coast of Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts.

"Mott MacDonald has been always delivering top-quality services and offering innovative, optimal value-adding solutions to all our technical challenges," said Jose Fuente, Electrical Design Manager for Vineyard Wind.

Mott MacDonald provided alternative and optimization studies, onshore substation design, and integration of work done by others. We recently secured a master service agreement for engineering that will serve as a contract vehicle for current and future work.

This project demonstrates our commitment to social outcomes though technical excellence. The project will generate electricity for more than 400,000 homes and businesses in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, save ratepayers $1.4 billion over the first 20 years of operation, and is expected to reduce carbon emissions by more than 1.6 million tons per year.
