Mott MacDonald is to help drive forward plans for a new Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) in King’s Lynn following its appointment as mechanical, electrical and public health engineers on the project.
The wider project design team, appointed by The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn NHS Foundation Trust following a competitive tender, will be led by architects BDP and will develop the designs of what the new QEH will look like, with WSP in the role of structural and civil engineer. The move is a major milestone in the delivery of a new QEH.
The announcement follows two significant decisions for the Trust’s new hospital plans, with a revised New Hospital Programme (NHP) plan, reaffirming the rebuild of the QEH as a key priority project, released by the Government, and QEH Board approval of the Strategic Outline Case (SOC) which explains why a new hospital is needed and how it will be delivered.
Rhydian Morgan, health sector lead at Mott MacDonald said “Mott MacDonald is bringing its technical expertise, digital innovation and breadth of experience across the health sector to the new Queen Elizabeth Hospital which is set to be transformational for both patients and staff. We understand the significance of the project to people and communities across Norfolk, and we’re pleased to be supporting and enabling this step change in care delivery”.
Peter Cox, programme director – New QEH, said “We are thrilled to have appointed such an impressive, experienced design team. This group have a wealth of experience in healthcare design for major national and international projects. I am confident they have the expertise to create plans for a new hospital that our local community can be proud of.
“We know just how much the QEH means to our patients and staff and this is another positive step forward in our journey towards making plans a reality.”
