Mott MacDonald wins project with Calgary Transit

The City of Calgary has selected Mott MacDonald to redesign important infrastructure for its light rail transit system.

Our team, which includes Platinum Engineering and Tulloch Engineering, will work to enhance the performance of the overhead catenary system (OCS) and associated railway infrastructure on a portion of Calgary’s CTrain.

The project will address a critical 5-mile (8-kilometer) portion of the CTrain between University Station and Crowfoot Station.

The team’s main objective will be to improve the reliability, availability, maintainability, and safety of the overhead catenary system by reducing contact wire wear and the number of splices required across this section of line.

In close collaboration with Calgary Transit, our team will undertake a comprehensive investigation of the system to determine the best-value capital infrastructure project. The preferred solution will then be progressed to detailed design. We will provide support through construction, final testing, and commissioning.

Positive social outcomes will include more dependable transit service, reduced wait times, and lower stress for Calgary Transit’s customers. The project will contribute to a safer travel environment for commuters and transit staff.
