Mott MacDonald to study hydrogen in natural gas infrastructure

  • North America

We are pleased to announce that the INGAA Foundation, a trade association representing the entire value chain for the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of interstate natural gas pipeline and storage, has chosen Mott MacDonald to conduct its Comprehensive Study of Hydrogen in Natural Gas Infrastructure. The aim of the study is to identify and summarize state-of-the-art practices for blending hydrogen into natural gas transmission network.

Repurposing existing natural gas pipeline infrastructure can potentially reduce the technical and economic barriers for delivering hydrogen to consumers, accelerating the adoption of hydrogen at scale.

Mott MacDonald is a key provider of services across the hydrogen value chain and is working on some of the world’s largest gigawatt-scale integrated hydrogen projects. This includes both individual projects across the hydrogen value chain and emerging hydrogen hubs, which have the potential to revolutionize the energy industry and support decarbonization. Hydrogen-blending and repurposing existing natural gas infrastructure can support the rapid adoption of these projects.

We are honored to be providing this key service to the INGAA Foundation, raising our profile in hydrogen services, and supporting the growth of the hydrogen industry in North America. The project also provides the opportunity to expand our staff capability and support the global hydrogen initiative.

The INGAA Foundation was formed in 1990 by the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America to advance the use of natural gas and ensure the reliability and safety of natural gas pipelines for the benefit of the environment and the consuming public. The Foundation completes a number of reports and studies each year and establishes safety guidelines for pipeline construction, operation, and employee safety.
