Mott MacDonald has been chosen to be the prime designer for the Scarborough Subway Extension Stations, Rail and Systems contract in Ontario.
The project will extend the Toronto Transit Commission’s Bloor-Danforth subway service 4.8 miles (7.8 kilometers) farther from the existing Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road, including three new stations.
Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario have selected Scarborough Transit Connect (STC) as the development partner for the Stations, Rail and Systems (SRS) contract. STC is a 50/50 consortium between Aecon and FCC Canada Ltd. Mott MacDonald’s design team includes subcontractors SENER SES Canada, Hawkins\Brown Architects LLP, Adamson Associates, SvN Architects + Planners, and Aldea Engineering.

The scope of work for the SRS package includes design and construction of the three new underground stations, each with bus terminals, as well as emergency exit buildings, service buildings, traction power substations, and the installation, testing, and commissioning of all systems.
The contract will be delivered using the progressive design-build model. According to Infrastructure Ontario, this model “allows for a collaborative approach between the project owner, the contracting partner and other stakeholders who work closely together to finalize the scope, risk allocation and pricing of various elements of the project.”
