Mott MacDonald appoints Rebecca Shadlock as environment and sustainability technical director, UK

Mott MacDonald has appointed Rebecca Shadlock as environment and sustainability technical director in its UK environment and social business. As part of an expanding team with nearly 500 experts located across the UK, Rebecca will provide technical leadership, supporting clients to achieve their net zero carbon commitments, deliver nature-based solutions and become climate resilient. She will be based in the consultancy’s offices in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Rebecca is an acknowledged industry expert having spent nearly 20 years working across multiple sectors including construction, manufacturing, petrochemical and waste management. Her focus is on adding value and working collaboratively to deliver business priorities whilst minimising environmental impact. Rebecca has a long track record of handling the interests of clients, stakeholders, regulators and other government agencies, so that any planning issues are identified and addressed to achieve project delivery.

Her recent project highlights include carbon lead on the A66 scheme to meet the requirements of PAS 2080 carbon management in infrastructure. She has also provided environmental support and leadership across a range of major projects where she was responsible for embedding company sustainability strategies and engagement with regulatory bodies to deliver in accordance with development consent order conditions and environmental legislation.

Commenting on her appointment, Rebecca said: “It’s very exciting to be joining Mott MacDonald at a time when their environment and social business is growing so significantly. There’s a hugely talented team here, working on a variety of major projects with the potential to deliver wider economic, social and environmental outcomes. Their passion for providing clients with sustainable solutions by constantly looking at challenges from a fresh angle is compelling and I’m looking forward to being an advocate for solutions that focus on a place-based approach.

Lucy Morton, global practice leader for the environment, said: “As the UK’s National Infrastructure Plan continues, projects need the input of talented environmental specialists like Rebecca to ensure the best outcomes for communities and their surroundings. Her extensive knowledge and guidance will be invaluable as we continue to grow the business in one of our main regions in the UK.”
