Mott MacDonald has appointed Bob Fryatt as international health lead. Bob will build on the consultancy’s successful track-record of developing stronger, more resilient health systems around the world.
Bob has 30 years’ experience working in public health across Asia, Africa, Latin America and Europe and spent more than six years delivering major USAID health system strengthening programmes. Most recently, he was director of the $209M flagship USAID programme, Local Health System Sustainability, focused on delivering integrated health systems solutions around the globe including surge support for the COVID-19 response. He has also worked as a health adviser to the UK Department for International Development, the South African Ministry of Health and spent eight years working for the World Health Organisation.
In his new role, Bob will lead Mott MacDonald’s team of international health specialists to improve and protect the health of populations in low and middle-income countries. One of his priority areas will be ensuring that the consultancy plays a key role in the international effort to improve health security and that the lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic are used to mitigate the impact of future health threats, particularly antimicrobial resistance.
Drawing on Mott MacDonald’s wide-ranging climate expertise, Bob will also explore opportunities to enhance the resilience of health systems to climate change and better protect vulnerable populations from the health impacts of drought, desertification and flooding.
Bob Fryatt said: “I am excited to have this opportunity to collaborate with a diverse range of technical specialists across health, climate and the environment, infrastructure, and education at Mott MacDonald. Working together, we have an opportunity to make a significant contribution to improving and protecting the health of populations globally.”
Simon Harris, managing director of Mott MacDonald’s international development business said: “Bob’s breadth and depth of expertise in delivering programmes to strengthen public health and health systems will be a major asset as we identify ways to improve health resilience in low and middle-income countries facing diverse threats to public health.”
