New York City’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has embarked on an aggressive journey to make 95% of the city’s 472 subway stations ADA accessible by 2050.

MTA Construction & Development retained Mott MacDonald to provide Program Management Consultant/Design Compliance services for overseeing a design-build contractor installing elevators at eight stations throughout the five boroughs.

Four of these stations have now been completed: Dyckman Street and Grand Street in Manhattan, East 149th Street in the Bronx, and New Dorp in Staten Island.

Everyone should be able to get to where they need to go.

The Dyckman Street Station on the 1 line was the first of the stations to reach the “substantially complete milestone.” On July 20, Principal Project Manager Jeff Smith and Senior Project Manager Andrew Gennaro of Mott MacDonald were invited to attend the grand opening ceremony. See video.

On September 15, two elevators were opened at the East 149th Street Station in the Bronx, and on September 29 the New Dorp Station became the first station on the Staten Island Railroad to be equipped with an elevator.

The project reflects our commitment to accessible, inclusive, and sustainable transportation.
