Anthony Mitchell has joined Mott MacDonald as a Vice President and Dams Safety Practice Leader for North America. Based in our Arlington, VA office, he will grow our business in the design, construction, evaluation, and rehabilitation of dams.
Anthony has served in the US Army and US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) since 1992, most recently as Strategic Advisor to the Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Prior to that position, he served as Executive Officer to the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works) in the budgetary, policy, and management oversight of the USACE and the $6 billion civil works operations, maintenance, and construction programs.
As USACE Commander and District Engineer for the St. Louis District and Nashville District, he managed water resources services, operation and maintenance, navigation, hydropower, recreation, and flood control along the Mississippi, Cumberland, and Tennessee Rivers; oversaw the construction management for two locks and dam recapitalizations and two urgent dam safety remediation projects; and led emergency response, disaster relief, recovery, and strategic communication efforts during multiple seasonal high-water rainfall (flood) events.
Anthony received a bachelor's degree in biology from Prairie View A&M University, a master's degree in engineering from the University of Texas, and a master's degree in strategic security studies from the National Defense University (College of International Security Affairs). In 2012 he received the Black Engineer of the Year Award for Professional Achievement in Government.
