We improve the emissions performance of construction and specific operational processes and assets, through renewable energy procurement and other low-carbon solutions.

We have expertise in accessing and interpreting climate science and data across the globe, and in conducting and communicating assessments of climate-related physical risk and vulnerability. We deliver resilience planning and implementation services, identify and advise on resilient infrastructure solutions, and help drive adaptive planning and investment decisions.

Advise on climate policy, finance, and development

To better integrate decarbonization and climate resilience, and to meet development goals, we help governments, project proponents, and businesses to enhance their ability to unlock funding for net-zero-aligned projects at scale. 

We improve your ability to prepare project proposals that meet funder requirements and demonstrate good governance. We enable finance providers to improve their understanding of markets, organizations, and projects seeking investment, and work with national and local governments, investors, and donors to address both demand-side and supply-side climate finance challenges.

Our experience

  • Climate action plan for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
    We supported the development of a climate action plan for Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. The plan identified key climate risks and provided the city’s Environmental Protection and Green Development Commission with a range of adaptation actions to protect key economic sectors, such as improving the resilience of hydropower production.
  • Climate resilient cities program, India
    We lead the UK-government-funded Climate Resilient Cities for Shared Prosperity program, which aims to transform the way urban programs are delivered in India. It focuses on driving inclusive economic growth, improved climate resilience, and shared prosperity.
  • Green Cities and Infrastructure Program, internationally
    We are a key infrastructure partner on this £100 million program, funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, to support green cities and deliver high-quality, climate-resilient infrastructure in low- and middle-income countries. We are contributing sector expertise across transportation, energy, and the built environment as well as specialist advice on climate resilience, sustainability, and digital innovation.
  • Heathrow Airport carbon and sustainability program, London, UK
    We have helped to design and deliver Heathrow Airport’s carbon reduction program, which is driving progress toward net zero carbon emissions by 2050. We are advising on energy transition, operational and embodied carbon, PAS 2080, future fuels, behavioral change, data and digital, smart systems and many other areas.
  • La Quinta Terminal, Corpus Christi, Texas, USA
    Forecast sea-level rise and wave conditions were evaluated as part of the design process for the La Quinta terminal at the port of Corpus Christi, Texas. Dredged material is valuable and has vast potential for beneficial use, including beach restoration, shore protection, and habitat enhancement. More than 11 tons was used to create the 200-acre seagrass and wetland habitat at La Quinta.
  • National Highways net zero plan, UK
    For National Highways, the government agency responsible for the UK’s principal road network, we created a route map for reducing construction and maintenance emissions. Reductions will be measured against an emissions baseline calculated in 2020. They will be achieved by implementing the principles set out in PAS 2080. We helped National Highways to become the first road organization in the world to achieve PAS 2080 accreditation in 2022.
  • Waterfront Toronto, Canada
    Our sustainability framework builds on international, national, and local best practices to set a new global standard for waterfront revitalization, focused on low-carbon and climate-resilient communities on the waterfront.

Carbon Portal

Identify, calculate, and reduce embodied and operational carbon emissions. This infrastructure carbon calculator is aligned to PAS 2080, the international specification for managing carbon across the built environment (coauthored by Mott MacDonald). It allows anyone across your business and supply chain to identify and calculate carbon emissions, not just carbon experts.

People and Planet

People and Planet demonstrates and quantifies social and environmental outcomes. It combines publicly available data with project data to assess social and environmental factors alongside project priorities. Risks and opportunities are displayed on maps and dashboards, empowering decisions that create long-term benefits for people and the planet.
