Remembering Dr Abdurrahman Umar

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our friend and colleague Dr Abdurrahman Umar, who passed away suddenly on Tuesday 21st July 2020 in Abuja, Nigeria.

Abdurrahman was instrumental in the successes of the Teacher Development Programme for which he was an outstanding Deputy Team Leader. Abdurrahman carried himself with such good humour and grace that it would have been easy to overlook the natural authority he commanded, and the esteem in which he was held by everyone whose lives he touched. His wise counsel and broad international experience were keenly sought by the heads of all Nigeria’s significant state and federal education sector institutions.

Recently he was recognised by the very highest levels of the Nigerian state, in being selected as Ambassador to UNESCO, Paris. He was thrilled with this appointment and eagerly anticipating the move to France which was scheduled for just a few weeks from his untimely death.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Abdurrahman’s family and his loved ones. May he rest in peace.
