I’m very honoured to have received this award from the president and it’s great to have recognition of the strong early careers network we have in the region.
I always knew I wanted to do something Maths and Science related and grew up with both grandfathers who were engineers so understood what engineering entailed. I truly found my passion in civil engineering while visiting universities and realised that I wanted to know more about how the world around me worked.
I joined Mott MacDonald during my undergraduate degree as a summer intern to develop my engineering skills outside of those traditionally taught at university and gain some first-hand industry experience. I did two summer placements with the company in Sheffield while completing my degree, then joined as a graduate civil engineer in the geotechnical team and am now a geotechnical engineer with the same team.
I’ve been in the geotechnics practice for all my career so far and really enjoy the work we do – particularly in the rail environment as it’s great to see projects you’ve been involved with while travelling around.
I’ve been able to work on great projects during my time at Mott MacDonald. I’m particularly proud of my involvement with the Hope Valley Project, which will increase connectivity between Manchester and Sheffield through the Peak District.
I love walking and being outdoors, especially in the Peak District. My partner and I started walking the Pennine Way in sections a few years ago and love heading up to the Lake District at any opportunity!
