About the business unit

 

We help conceive, drive, and implement transport solutions for cities, regions, and asset owners/operators around the globe. From preparing the business case and​ advising on related issues - such as revenue, procurement, and environmental legislation - to delivering the completed infrastructure and helping maintain it. Our planning, engineering, environmental and management skills cover the whole project cycle. We play a major role in developing and delivering the Global Transport Sector Strategy.

 

Overview of role

 

We are looking for a Project Planner to join our Programme, Project and Commercial Management (PPCM) team within the Transport and Mobility Solutions (TMS) division. This is an exciting opportunity to become a key part of our team and contribute to shaping the delivery of future major transport infrastructure projects. You will be based in one of our UK offices. The role will involve supporting major projects in delivering P6 scheduling and supporting data analysis.  You will report to the Project Controls Team Leader and support project teams as we seek to integrate programme, cost, resourcing, risk and change management, providing our teams with scheduling and data.


Mott MacDonald’s TMS Division delivers services across the entire project lifecycle. Whether we are planning, designing and implementing new transport infrastructure, or maintaining, managing, improving and operating existing networks, we deliver innovation, cost certainty and added value through collaborative working with clients and a culture of continuous improvement.

 

The TMS Division is primarily based in the UK, delivering projects to clients such as local authorities, Department for Transport, National Highways, Transport Scotland, DIO and Contractors. We specialise in design and construction, progressing schemes from option identification and appraisal through preliminary detail design to supervision of works on site. We also provide advice on procurement options and administer contracts from tender assessment through interim valuations to settlement of final accounts.

In this role you will be part of the TMS PPCM Team. The principal aim of this team is to lead and deliver numerous business functions, including commercial; planning (P6 scheduling); quality; risk; performance and continuous improvement across our major project’s portfolio.


Your principal responsibilities will range depending on the services required by individual projects. These may typically include: 


•    Leading, managing and maintaining Programmes in a manner that aligns with internal and client requirements, including supporting the integration of cost, resourcing, risk, programme and change management;
•    Providing data analysis and outputs to meet internal and client reporting requirements; and,
•    Collaborating with the Project Management and Commercial Teams in delivering effective change management against the baseline position.

 

Candidate Specification

 

Essential competencies / skills:


The successful candidate will be proactive, enthusiastic and eager to play a part in a growing team. It is important that you can work autonomously, developing your own network and have good stakeholder management skills. You will possess/be: 
1.    A relevant Degree;
2.    Experience in the use of established schedule management tools such as Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project with a proven track record of delivering Planning on large scale schedules for major projects or complex programmes at design stage;
3.    Experience of assessing delay and disruption to support contractual claims (prolongation/ extension of time);
4.    Experience of working in an infrastructure design environment working alongside construction partners;
5.    Experience of applying earned value management technics to major project programmes;
6.    Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and collaborate at all levels;
7.    Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise workload effectively; and,
8.    Self-motivated and enthusiastic with the ability to work as part of team and independently as required.

 

Desirable competencies / skills:


1.    Knowledge and experience of delivering Lean and Collaborative Planning in a project environment;
2.    Knowledge and understanding of collaborative behaviours within a Professional Services context;
3.    Experience working in design and build environment;
4.    Knowledge of risk management techniques; and,
5.    Knowledge and experience of NEC Contracts.
