Job Description:
Cambridge Education, a subsidiary of Mott MacDonald Limited, is seeking to recruit a Regional Lead to support delivery of a new FCDO funded programme, Transforming Education in Ethiopia (TREE). TREE is a four-year programme (2024 – 2028) designed to support the Government of Ethiopia at both federal and regional levels to improve teaching quality and learning outcomes, and increase access to good quality education, particularly for girls and marginalised children. It will build on significant progress made by the Government of Ethiopia at all levels to expand educational opportunities for children. 

 

TREE will focus on three key outcomes:

  • Outcome 1 – improved quality of teaching and learning in targeted schools, with focus on developing pedagogical skills of teachers and competency of school leaders; 
  • Outcome 2 – improved teaching and learning in English Language as a subject and improved use of English across the school curriculum; 
  • Outcome 3 – increased number of the most marginalised children, particularly girls, accessing education, staying in school without dropping out and learning.   

 

Job Profile:
The Regional Lead will work closely with the senior management team and oversee the programme in the region. S/he will be accountable for overall delivery of programme activities and effective co-working with government counterparts in the region. 

 

Candidate Specification:

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining strong working relationships with Regional Education Bureaus, Zonal Education Offices, Woreda Offices and other relevant sub-national establishments
  • Making regular visits to districts, schools and communities to monitor progress of programme interventions
  • Overseeing and coordinating programme resources in the region
  • Working closely with government counterparts and leading on stakeholder engagements within the region
  • Supporting the technical team to effectively deliver programme interventions

 

Skills & Qualification:

  • Good understanding of Ethiopian education and administrative structures for service delivery
  • Managing and leading teams; including planning, coordinating, implementing and monitoring activities
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Fluency in written and spoken English; fluency in Amharic or relevant local language an advantage
  • Educated to a degree level, Masters preferred in education, governance or related subject
