Overview of role 

We’re looking for an international social performance consultant to join our team in Madrid, Spain. The focus of the role will be on social assessment for energy projects, particularly in Europe, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. We work on some of the most significant generation projects in the world, including solar, hydro, wind, and thermal generation technologies.

This is a permanent role and will offer excellent prospects for career development involving different power generation technologies, with focus on energy projects from development and construction to operations.

Key Elements of the role will include:

  • social and human rights impact assessment and management
  • social due diligence, equator principle compliance reviews and construction monitoring
  • resettlement and indigenous peoples’ development planning
  • public consultation, disclosure and stakeholder engagement planning
  • labour rights management planning and auditing
  • gender analysis and management planning
  • environmental, social and governance (ESG) reports
  • international travel


You’d be part of a truly multidisciplinary team; working alongside some of the best environmental specialists, social specialists and engineers in the industry. 

 

Candidate Specification 

Essential Criteria

  • Fluent in English (i.e.: ability to work at site, participate in meetings, review documents, write reports).
  • BA degree and a master degree qualified in a discipline related to sociology, social science, geography, international development or similar a social subject.
  • Extensive experience of applying social safeguards of international finance institutions such as the World Bank Group, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and European Investment Bank as part of ESIA, due diligence and construction/operations monitoring of energy projects such as solar, hydro, wind, and thermal generation technologies.
  • Experience in reviewing complex documents, able to summarise and present the key issues in a clear and concise way.
  • Ability to travel in Spain and internationally.
  • Held previous roles demonstrating strong communication and writing skills, and being able to work within a team, motivate others to deliver to high standards, and to meet budgets and timescales

Desirable criteria 

•    Fluency or work proficiency in Spanish or French 
•    Demonstrable experience in any of the following key areas:
o    Supply chain analysis
o    Environmental Social Governance (ESG) services
o    Just Transition
o    Gender equality and empowerment
o    Human rights impact assessment
•    Knowledge of the European Union Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (EU CSRD) requirements (i.e.: sustainability-related disclosure requirements, double materiality assessment).
•    Experience in managing projects, work planning, resource allocation, financial/budget management.
•    Experience in business development and writing proposals (aptitude in identification, progression, delivery, and success in bidding for new project opportunities).
•    Experience in developing and managing client relationships and winning new work.
•    Membership of a relevant professional institute.
