About the business unit:
The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across several sectors including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation and transmission & distribution networks. Together we provide integrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle – from concept and design to construction and operations, to decommissioning or repowering and life extension. Together with our clients, we’re helping to deliver the energy transition globally.
About the role
We are looking for a Principal Process Engineer to join the Energy Unit within the Nuclear, Civil, and Defence division. This role will support and provide leadership to deliver process engineering solutions through strong engineering knowledge, including the compliance with client’s directives and policies. Responsible for the delivery of front-end process designs, process descriptions, equipment specifications, and other process data necessary to enable detailed project design. Open mindset with the ability to apply techniques and technologies not normally associated with the nuclear industry and be proactive and forth coming with new ideas and solutions. Ultimately, deliver engineering solutions in keeping with their skills and ability.
Key Responsibilities :
- Leading the Process design element on large, complex and multi-disciplinary projects
- Working with and mentoring junior process engineers
- Responsible for all stages of project evolution from concept to detailed design work, including use of appropriate design and analysis software packages, through to project construction supervision and commissioning.
- Preparation and review of documentation e.g. basis of designs, technical/design specifications, procurement specifications, assessment reports, survey reports, tailored to required stage of project completion.
- Investigation and development of technologies options and the identification and specification of R&D requirements.
- Coordination and integration of work across all packages of work.
- Production of technical and engineering reports and documents
- Production of high-level schemes, sketches and drawing that support the development of study options.
- Produce Process Engineering deliverables including PFDs, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) Process Descriptions & Calculations
- Support the development of space management options.
- Development of waste product transfer options.
- Develop and manage process simulation models.
- Support the development of options aimed at maintaining control of activity and minimizing potential contamination risks.
- Development of maintenance strategies.
- Undertake optioneering exercise to identify optimum design solution.
- Support the production of the Project Functional Specification
- Producing and reviewing detailed calculations
- Producing estimates of work elements including equipment and manhour costs
- Monitoring of the process design of commissions within agreed programmes
- Ensure compliance with current legislation and standards associated with all engineering aspects of delegated projects.
- Provide information for and participate in design reviews, HAZOPS etc
Candidate Specification
Requirements:
- Broad knowledge of industry standards and legislation.
- Technical chemical/process engineering experience.
- Demonstrable experience in process engineering design.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Client-facing experience with a commercial awareness of FEED projects.
- Ability to optimise complex process systems.
- Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
