About the business unit 

The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across a number of sectors including thermal generation, hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation and transmission & distribution networks. 

Together we provide integrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle – from concept and design, to construction and operations, to decommissioning or repowering and life extension. Together with our clients, we’re helping to deliver the energy transition globally.

 

About the role

 Although our team is based in the Netherlands, we are seeking an experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer & Project Manager who can also be located in Brighton, United Kingdom.

Due to recent new wins, and with further exciting opportunities in the pipeline, we’re looking for someone who can take a lead in managing thermal projects in Germany that are being developed as part of the country’s energy transition plans.  

You’ll work closely with our existing team members, clients and sub contractors to continue to build on this success and be a key part of Mott MacDonald’s growth in the Netherlands, Germany and wider Europe.

Your key responsibilities will be:
-    Manage and lead thermal projects from feasibility stage through to permitting, detailed design and completion
-    Frequent and regular travel from our office in Arnhem to our clients’ offices in Germany
-    Creating successful relationships with clients, their contractors and consultants, our internationally based team members and sub-contractors in Germany through effective communication and efficient project management processes
-    Developing and managing project plans, project teams, budgets and deliverables and implement corrective actions as needed
-    Delivering to project deadlines
-    Providing technical expertise 

Essential:
•    Fluent in German (reading, writing and spoken) 
•    Fluent in English
•    Degree Qualified engineer with extensive experience in large thermal energy projects using gas turbines
•    Demonstrable experience of Project Management
•    Demonstrable experience in client facing roles
•    Demonstrable experience in managing and motivating a wide range of specialists
•    Ability and willingness to make frequent trips to Germany and visit other countries

 

Desirable:
•    Demonstrable knowledge of permitting requirements in Germany (BImSchG, water rights permits, building applications, ELiA)
•    Excellent knowledge of technical terminology
•    Comfortable with “Behoerdendeutsch”
•    Demonstrable knowledge of environmental assessment requirements in Germany
•    Available to start within one month of application
