About the business unit 
We help conceive, drive, and implement transport solutions for cities, regions, and asset owners/operators around the globe. From preparing the business case and​ advising on related issues - such as revenue, procurement, and environmental legislation - to delivering the completed infrastructure and helping maintain it. Our planning, engineering, environmental and management skills cover the whole project cycle. We play a major role in developing and delivering the Global Transport Sector Strategy.

 

Overview of role
As a Principal Engineer you will be responsible for the design of structures integral to large scale civil infrastructure projects and underground spaces such as deep basements, cut and cover tunnels and metro station boxes. You will be required to lead teams, manage production and co-ordinate delivery of your designs – often with multi-disciplinary members and senior stakeholders.

 

As well as contributing to projects you will play an active role in Mott MacDonald’s practice communities, where knowledge is shared and best practice fostered to deliver to the highest quality for our clients. There will be opportunities within the role to develop the skills required to take on a more senior technical leadership position in the future.  

 

Candidate specification

  • You have a Masters level degree in Civil Engineering and are chartered with the ICE or IStructE with at least 10 years’ experience relevant to the role.
  • You have detailed knowledge of reinforced concrete design and understand the fundamentals of soil-structure interaction.
  • You are familiar with the latest construction techniques for underground spaces, have practical experience of the buildability issues often encountered and have an appreciation for the multi-disciplinary nature of civil infrastructure design.
  • As well as a strong technical background, our ideal candidate will have ambitions to take on broader leadership/management roles, shaping the direction of the business, and join in our culture for sharing knowledge and collaboration within our industry.
