Your Opportunity

As the Engineering Design Director - Aviation , you will provide technical oversight for our aviation project commitments as well as strategic direction to pursue, win and deliver aviation projects. You will be a visible leader of Mott MacDonald’s aviation expertise in Queensland, reinforcing existing relationships with key clients and collaborators.

 

You will act as the subject matter expert on key aviation projects, leading detailed design work with a hands-on approach, supporting teams to create solutions that deliver ambitious design outcomes.

 

Key accountabilities of the role include:

  • Lead the technical delivery of multidisciplinary design services across the project lifecycle, with a focus on terminal design.
  • Provide technical oversight and strategic direction for major aviation capital or change programmes.
  • Drive solution development within major bids and act as project principal on strategically significant projects to deliver successful outcomes for our clients.
  • Support client engagement plans for key aviation clients in partnership with the respective regional and local leadership team.
  • Engage with your global aviation leadership cohort, sharing knowledge and resources with the wider practice community.

 

About you

To bring the necessary credibility and technical expertise to this role, you will need to have substantial experience working on major aviation infrastructure programs. You will have led coordinated, multidisciplinary design development of international terminals and related infrastructure, accountable for designs with a capital value in excess of AUD 500m.

 

You’re a positive and proactive person who can understand and appreciate the overarching vision and knows how to continuously work towards it. Your collegiate approach will leverage and share experience across Asia Pacific, New Zealand & Australia (APNA) and as part of the global aviation practice.

 

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to have the following:

  • Substantial experience planning and delivering major aviation capital or change programmes, with exposure to Australian airport projects being highly regarded
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as aviation planning, engineering, architecture, finance, environmental science, or project management.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts with ease, leaning on your exceptional interpersonal and negotiation skills to drive results and build client relationships.
  • Enthusiastic approach to engineering design, inspiring people as a collaborative effort with a team mentality
  • Commercial awareness and experience balancing delivery of exceptional work with a proactive approach to winning work from prospects and existing relationships
