Job Description:

 

The Buildings Services team for the Buildings South Division will comprise resources in the following core geographies;

 

London Fleet Place
East Croydon
Birmingham
Brighton

Bristol

Cardiff

 

In line with the BNC Unit strategy, our Intention is to bring all resources together in the Buildings South Division under one lead, who will have two roles. The first is to promote our offer externally and set the strategic Direction of the Building Services discipline. The second element will be Operational control, which will be achieved by establishing a discipline board with following remit:-

 

  • Technical resource development.
  • Technical investment/research.
  • Innovation/automaton/Digital leadership.
  • Technical control/governance of product delivery.
  • Driving outsource delivery model.
  • Knowledge sharing and product consistency Initiatives.


The Team:

 

We have circa plus 100 Building Services Engineers located within the Buildings South Division, Supporting a wide variety of Clients, key accounts and sectors.

In terms of Location, the successful candidate will operate from the southern region of the UK, near one of the core offices.

  • Experience of successfully leading/managing teams to grow market share and meet utilisation targets and budgets
  • Track record in promotional and business development initiatives that would be appropriate  to developing this aspect of the business
  • Eagerness to work with team leads through 2-way relationship
  • Drive to grow strands and encourage senior management to invest for the future
  • Proven familiarity and adherence Group processes and systems and effectiveness at  achieving compliance and value added from the team

Job Profile :

Building Services Discipline Lead

 

Working with the Divisional General Manager (DGM) and reporting to the Divisional Resource Manager (DRM), provide resource management across the Building Services Resource Group. As discipline head you will be responsible for providing bid and project teams; managing staff utilisation; managing staff skills and capability development; manage recruitment; proposing to the DRM all staff reward and recognition; manage staff retention and deal with staff performance  issues.

Ensure technical quality standards are maintained and provide commercial leadership across all the live projects within the resource group.

 

Key Responsibilities :

 

  • Ensure H & S practices are followed
  • Develop a high performing team to meet all relevant WIN and DO requirements
  • Provide link between senior management and Building Services teams and represent the teams as one voice to senior management
  • Ensure that appropriate pastoral care and wellbeing support is in place
  • Ensure a strong support infrastructure is in place to enable optimum utilisation
  • Ensure career development plans are in place through Connected Conversations
  • Ensure timely recruitment of resource and enable an environment that optimizes retention and performance
  • Ensure talent mapping of the team is completed annually with succession plans in place for critical roles 
  • Enable a highly engaged team
  • Identify future capability needs, and meet them through staff development and recruitment in line with Group/Unit/Divisional business strategies
  • Maintain utilisation and act to correct underperformance 
  • Lead all discipline promotion and appointment proposals
  • Assess staff training needs and implement training plans, working closely with Practice  Leaders and the DRM
  • Ensure budget control is maintained……. Timesheets (including overtime) and address under  and over utilisation
  • Monitor expenses, ensuring they are appropriate
  • Working with Divisional BMS Manager, ensure BMS STEP recruitment process is followed,

It is envisaged that this role will be funded up to 2 days a week. The rest of the working week will be on project delivery or on promotion/BD activities

 

Building Services promotion and business development

 

It is anticipated that the promotion and BD elements of this role will be key to the day-to-day activities. Positioning with new and existing key clients/sectors is deemed essential for successfully delivering the buildings strategy.

 

A significant proportion of work is acquired through cross-selling on multidiscipline projects, so  active cross-market collaboration is deemed essential.

Our aim is to continue on a growth driven trajectory. This requires a dynamic approach to retention & recruitment combined with a focused approach to promotion and business development both  internally and externally, but always, founded on technical excellence which has driven client retention. Some aspects of the role are as follows, but this list is not exhaustive:

 

  • Act as facilitator for growth, being the main conduit with account leaders.
  • Represent Building Services teams at key internal forums plus other forms of communication to promote the specialist skills offer.
  • Coordinating bidding process, in conjunction with WIN team, be responsible for overseeing  the development of a repository for bidding and marketing collateral
  • Secure central business development budget for Building Services teams
  • Proven client facing for multidiscipline teams, able to represent all Sub Disciplines at client presentations
  • Ultimately, to develop and see through an ambitious external and internal marketing and  business development strategy
