About our apprenticeships  

Our apprenticeships are paid roles where you will learn and gain valuable on the job experience, whilst also completing classroom-based learning either in person or virtually with a college, university or training provider which upon completion of the apprenticeship leads to a nationally recognised qualification.   

The apprenticeship will typically be undertaken over two to six years depending on the level of the apprenticeship, and during this time you will be provided with real life experience working on a variety of exciting projects that are helping to shape tomorrow’s world. 
 

Job Description

Our apprenticeships span a range of different sectors and are based within a variety of different teams working on a wide range of projects, so as you can imagine, each role varies. If you’re invited to an interview, this is when we will discuss in more detail the specifics of the job role you applied for and what it involves. 
 
You’ll be working with graduates, experienced professionals, and other apprentices so an apprenticeship with us is the perfect opportunity to learn from a variety of people while understanding our values and culture.

As a Environmental Practitioner Degree Apprentice your duties will include:

• Working within environmental and sustainability teams to deliver Sustainability Strategies, Environmental Management Plans, EIAs and Sustainability Appraisals. Assist with EIA screening and scoping studies and help to manage the delivery of EIA and environmental reports.  

• Assisting with the analysis of potential environmental impacts, working with wider multidisciplinary teams to develop sustainable designs and produce mitigation plans.  

• Engaging with a diverse range of specialists through the company on different projects, including defence, roads, railways, flood management, water resources and with clients in the public and private sector. Developing field of interest and shaping career will progression through this engagement.   

• Getting involved with our Early Career Professionals activities to develop skills and build a network, through seminars, training courses and on the job learning. This will supplement time at university and allow practical application of knowledge.   

• Supporting with organisation and undertaking of environmental surveys which may include ecology, air quality and noise including the preparation of relevant health & safety documentation.  

• Producing environmental drawings and plans using digital software including GIS.  

• Environmental data collection, management, review and analysis.  

We are currently recruiting into our teams in either Bristol, Cambridge, Croydon, Leeds, London or Reading

Candidate Specification  

To join us for a Rail Systems Engineering Degree Apprenticeship you must meet the eligibility requirements of the relevant training provider. These are:
 

• 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade 4/C or above including English and Maths 
• 3 A Levels (or equivalent) with at  Grade C or above. (96 UCAS points) 

 
We are looking for students with the following characteristics: 

• A methodical approach to problem solving.
• The ability to use your initiative to undertake tasks efficiently and independently.
• Excellent verbal communication skills, which allow you to confidently liaise with clients and team members.
• Excellent written communication and attention to detail.

From the moment you join us, you’ll receive the training you need. You will be assigned a mentor, who will guide you to meet the objectives of your apprentice agreement. We’ll support you on your journey to completing the apprenticeship and your career aspirations beyond.

You’ll be enrolled onto Accelerate Your Future, a structured three-year soft-skills development programme which develops the strengths that we know apprentices need to be successful at Mott MacDonald. It also gives you the opportunity to network and meet other apprentices and graduates in your cohort. The programme is a mix of residential events, classroom-based learning, virtual webinars, and sustainability and social impact challenges. 

In addition to developing your soft skills, we recognise that each persons career goals vary, so when rolling off the programme we provide you with the tools and support to develop your ongoing career the way you wish to. Alongside our vast library of e-learning courses available to you, you can choose which direction you want your career to go in.
