Biography

Describe what life at Mott MacDonald means to you in three words

Growth, opportunity, collaboration

What do you enjoy about working here?

The people. We have a wealth of knowledge and skills that help us provide excellent solutions for our clients.

The fast-paced environment is another reason I enjoy working here. The New Zealand market is evolving rapidly, and this change is exciting. We have a strong base and plenty of opportunities for this, which really motivates me.

Tell us about your specialism and why you chose it

I left school without really knowing what to do. Instead of enrolling in university, I chose to take up an electrical apprenticeship at the local pulp and paper mill in my hometown of Kawerau. This experience sparked my curiosity in engineering, leading me to pursue a degree in electrical engineering. Since then, I've been predominantly working as a consultant.

Describe your role and responsibilities

My primary focus as a client director is to maintain and enhance relationships with our clients. This involves getting alongside them, understanding their pain points and identifying opportunities where Mott MacDonald can provide support.

A key aspect of my role is ensuring we are connected with our clients at multiple levels to provide value and deliver high-quality engineering services.

How do you contribute to Mott MacDonald making a difference to people and the planet?

I contribute to Mott MacDonald by leading through my daily actions. My goal is to create an environment that fosters a passion for engineering amongst my colleagues. I believe that when we are passionate about making a difference in what we are doing, then this is reflected in the innovation, excellence, and quality of our work.

What are your career highlights and achievements?

One of my proudest career highlights is starting Neo, a successful electrical engineering company. We built a fantastic team of engineers that has now joined Mott MacDonald. What I've especially enjoyed through this process is mentoring talented engineers and working on projects that have truly benefited our community.

Are you involved in any additional initiatives at Mott MacDonald, aside from your day-to-day role?

I am an Engineering New Zealand Fellow and participate in their mentorship program to help emerging professionals develop their personal and professional capabilities within the industry. I am also a Practice Area Assessor for CPEng chartership.

What do you enjoy about your job and why?

What I enjoy most about my job is the people. Throughout this journey, I've been fortunate to work with and learn from some amazing individuals, many of whom have become great friends.
