Tell us about your specialism and why you chose it

I am a social scientist by background. I have always had an interest in understanding how societies operate and how inequality in communities can be addressed to improve inclusion in civic life. Working in infrastructure has enabled me to influence the development of assets and programmes which benefit people every day. Now I’m lucky to combine my social focus with colleagues working in the environmental and climate space - delivering positive impacts to both people and the planet.

How has your career progressed since joining?

I joined Mott MacDonald’s Birmingham office in 2007 as a senior consultant. At that time, we did not provide economic and social development services in the UK, so I was tasked with building a new service for local clients, primarily in the transport and planning sectors. From there our offer expanded both geographically and in the sectors we supported.

Over the years I rose to principal consultant, team leader and then projects director. In 2013 I was given the opportunity to build a team in London, so I relocated down south. Following my relocation I moved into global roles, first looking after our worldwide community of social practitioners and most recently, I have become our global lead for environment and society.

How do you contribute to Mott MacDonald making a difference to people and planet?

In my current role, I focus on the growth of our climate, environment, social and sustainability services, drawing together the expertise we have across the globe so that we can better identify and engage with those clients with the highest demand for our skills and services. The role enables me to work with some fantastic, industry-leading specialists, who work to maximise benefits for communities, climate, nature and biodiversity and support clients with their requirements around carbon management, circular economy, equality, accessibility and many other topics. Working together we make a significant impact.
