Biography

Ian Courtney has spent his entire 37 years career with Mott MacDonald joining them in 1988. He has undertaken several senior leadership, delivery and development roles including having a core focus in defence and specialisation in supporting the UK’s Nuclear Submarine Enterprise.

He has worked closely with the UK’s Ministry of Defence in leading major infrastructure programmes such as the Nuclear Infrastructure recapitalisation programme at HMNB Clyde and leading major organisational transformation programmes for Defence Infrastructure Organisation.  

Since 2021, he has been Mott MacDonald’s global defence and security lead responsible for development of the defence business’ across the UK, US and Australia and growing our 2500 strong defence team. A Chartered Civil Engineer, Ian is passionate about working closely with our clients to drive efficiency and innovation in project delivery to provide better outcomes to end users.
