What do you enjoy about working here?

Something that is particularly enjoyable about working here is the people. People are open to others asking the “what if?” questions and positively challenging ideas and thoughts. I enjoy the open and collaborative culture.

Tell us about your specialism and why you chose it

I am a chemist and water scientist by my academic background but work as a sustainability consultant primarily in the built environment sector. Like many people from my generation, I didn’t choose this path as such, but followed my own curiosity and the opportunities that presented themselves throughout my career to end up where I am – and that process continues to this day.

Why did you choose Mott MacDonald as a company you wanted to be part of? 

The values of our business really resonate with me. Being employee-owned and having traditional values, such as an emphasis on employee retention, long-term thinking and making people take ownership of their work is great. I believe the core attributes of the company are built on solid grounds.

How has your career progressed since joining?

I joined in 2011 as a principal consultant, progressing to project principal in 2017. During my time here, I’ve also built a sustainability team in Cambridge in the UK, which has grown into a divisional team, and we now work for other units and regions as well. Another experience I’ve had, has been leading sustainability Technical Excellence efforts within one of our units in the UK & Europe region; a great learning and development opportunity.

How do you demonstrate Technical Excellence in your work?

My work is the kind that constantly evolves, and I am certain that in five years’ time my role and expertise will have changed, as it has done so in the past fifteen years. Keeping up with how the industry moves – especially considering the current speed of the climate and sustainability world – is absolutely essential. Technical Excellence in what I do requires agility, flexibility and a quick understanding of interdependencies in our projects and in the wider world.
