Mott MacDonald win Jersey Airport masterplan

Mott MacDonald has been appointed as masterplan consultant on the Jersey airport masterplan by Ports of Jersey Ltd.

Working closely with Ports of Jersey Ltd, the firm will develop an airport masterplan to act as a strategic roadmap for the airport and enable informed business decisions about future development to be made.

“This is a really exciting project to be working on,” said Nick Mayer, technical principal at Mott MacDonald. “As the airport is the only one on the island, this is about ensuring that the needs of the local community are met, and that the airport remains commercially viable over the next 30 plus years.”

“At the same time, we will be working closely with Ports of Jersey to really push the envelope when it comes to sustainability. Our Sustainable Aviation Initiative allows us to assist airport operators in decarbonising their businesses, while at the same time preparing for the future of flight, including new renewable aviation fuels.”

The team at Mott MacDonald will work to reduce the operational carbon emissions of the airport, embedded carbon in built infrastructure and, most importantly, carbon from flight operations.

“This project builds on our wider activities in Jersey,” said David Brown, account lead at Mott MacDonald. “This is a great opportunity for us to work collaboratively with the people of Jersey to help support the island’s challenges.”

Expected to be completed in November 2021, the masterplan will see an increased passenger capacity from 1.5 million to 3 million a year by 2050, ensure that the capital investment programme is properly managed, as well as improve the operational performance of the airport.
