Mott MacDonald founding signatory of the Baukultur Alliance at Davos 2023

Mott MacDonald, the global engineering, management and development consultancy, has signed up as a founding member of The Davos Baukultur Alliance, launched at the second international conference on high-quality Baukultur, January 2023.

Taking place on the eve of the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, the Alliance unites Baukultur supporters from the public and private sectors and civil society.

Denise Bower OBE, Mott MacDonald executive board director signed the memorandum at the event, committing to the objectives and principles of the Davos Declaration 2018, the Davos Baukultur Quality System and to strive to implement high-quality Baukultur in Mott MacDonald activities.

Baukultur encompasses all activities with spatial impact, from craftsmanship details to large-scale urban planning and landscape, from heritage conservation to contemporary creation. High-quality Baukultur is defined by well-designed cities, villages, buildings and infrastructure creating a living environment that is good for people’s well-being and health.

Denise stated at the signing event: “There is a fundamental link between the quality of people’s lives and the sustainability and resilience of the built environment. Therefore, we need to manage and develop it purposefully. At Mott MacDonald, the concept of high quality Baukultur is strongly aligned with our purpose, considering social outcomes – accessibility, inclusion, empowerment, resilience and wellbeing – in everything we do.”

She continued: “We welcome the chance to participate in a network that places society and the environment alongside the economy and technology in its decision-making. It is a shift that is essential for addressing many of today’s most pressing challenges, including the climate and biodiversity emergencies, and social inequality. Public and private sector collaboration of this kind is essential for achieving change on the scale required. We will support the Alliance to address institutional barriers to transformation and accelerate the adoption of integrated Baukultur solutions to meet society’s current and future needs.”

Members of the Davos Baukultur Alliance are companies internationally active in construction, real estate or finance, national ministries/agencies for culture and other relevant domains, as well as intergovernmental organisations and international non-governmental organisations.
