Mott MacDonald appoints Steve Bungay as technical director for wastewater process emissions

Mott MacDonald is continuing the rapid growth of its UK water consultancy team with the appointment of Steve Bungay as technical director for wastewater process emissions. Steve will provide technical leadership across the business and support clients in their efforts to quantify and reduce fugitive process emissions from wastewater treatment works, as part of an expanding team in Reading.

An industry expert, Steve has worked in water quality, wastewater, and sludge treatment for more than 30 years. He is a guest lecturer at Cranfield University and chairs the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management’s (CIWEM) Wastewater and Biosolids Technical Network. Steve also sits on the steering committee for both the European Wastewater Management Conference and the European Biosolids and Organics Conference and works as an expert witness in the fields of wastewater and biosolids treatment.

Steve’s recent project highlights include working with CIWEM to develop a long-term bioresources strategy for England, plus developing a model to predict methane emissions during the anaerobic treatment of sewage sludge.

Commenting on his appointment, Steve said: “I’m delighted to have joined Mott MacDonald at a time of such significant growth in its water business and aim to support the continued development of an industry leading team, working at the forefront of understanding, managing, and reducing process emissions.”

Tim Hill, general manager for the water and environment unit, said: “We understand that the UK water sector's journey to net zero carbon will be a complex one, involving a variety of technologies, initiatives and behaviours to drive down emissions. Steve’s appointment reflects our desire to continually deliver better outcomes for our clients. He brings a wealth of experience to this role and will contribute significantly to the development of further innovation.”
