Mott MacDonald has appointed Owen Davies as a project principal within its highways team in Wales. Based in Cardiff, Owen will be responsible for the oversight and governance of a portfolio of roads projects and for further developing the consultancy’s offering throughout Wales and the wider UK.
Owen recently relocated from Australia and brings with him 20 years' experience in the transport sector. A chartered professional engineer of the Institution of Engineers Australia and a fellow of Roads Australia, Owen has overseen a number of nationally significant infrastructure projects in New South Wales, taking them all the way through from bid phase to detail design delivery. In the early 2010s, Owen was responsible for spear-heading the delivery of a new form of collaborative contract, which is now the industry standard across Australia.
Owen was the project manager for the design and build of the Pacific Highway upgrade from Tintenbar to Ewingsdale. The project was recognised by fellow industry peers in 2016, when it was awarded Engineers Australia National Engineering Excellence Award.
Commenting on his appointment, Owen said: "The opportunities in Wales and beyond are very exciting. I will look to provide a new perspective to help our team win, continue to deliver excellence and meet the challenge our clients face. I look forward to being part of Mott MacDonald and working with colleagues who share the same values as myself around social value and sustainable solutions.”
John D’Arcy, Mott MacDonald’s UK managing director for highways, said: “We are delighted that in relocating back to Wales from Australia, Owen has chosen to join us in a senior role in our highways team. Owen brings huge experience in leading major client accounts and the delivery of major projects. He is passionate about the sector and the opportunities to safely meet the needs of current and future road users. Owen will use all of his international experience to play a leading role in roads projects in Wales and the wider UK that create improved social outcomes for our communities.”
