Architecture

Smart, deliverable design that adds value to your project.

Building owners seeking to develop new or improve existing structures are faced with a host of challenges, from the fluctuating costs of materials, labour and energy through to regulatory changes and the need to improve environmental performance. These priorities must compete with the need to deliver the right return on investment.

Meeting all those challenges begins with smart architectural design, which can be combined with digital solutions to innovate, optimise and add value. Great design unlocks the opportunity to create flexible and sustainable spaces that enhance the operations of owners and end users throughout a building’s lifecycle.

What can we do for you?

Our architectural teams apply their technical expertise across all stages of the design process. They deliver a wide range of project types of varying scale and complexity, from one-off buildings to estate optimisation.

Shape buildings with outcomes in mind

Our architects begin by understanding the function of a building, estate or campus. We create practical, deliverable, customer focused designs that enable your business and processes to function more efficiently.

Provide multidisciplinary expertise

Supported by our global network of specialists, our architects design complex and mission critical physical infrastructure. We have an extensive track record in sectors including transport buildings, aviation, defence, energy, water, justice and correctional, and education.

Improve sustainability and meet decarbonisation ambitions

Our designers work closely with sustainability colleagues to reduce the carbon footprint of buildings and access public funding for energy efficiency improvements.

Produce smarter designs using advanced digital tools

We take a digital first approach, using digital design and building information modelling (BIM) to innovate, solve complex problems and increase efficiency. Through virtual and augmented reality (VR and AR) we can produce fully immersive experiences to help you visualise the design and better engage with stakeholders.

Services we provide

We mobilise our global network to address local challenges, bringing to bear the latest best practice and most up-to-date thinking in fields such as quality assurance and health and safety.

Our experience

  • Bethesda Station, Maryland, USA
Now under construction in Maryland, the Purple Line is a 16-mile light rail line with ridership expected to reach 74,000 people daily by 2040. We are providing engineering and construction phase services for various aspects of the line, including Bethesda Station, which is located in a shell and tunnel structure provided by the developer of a new 300ft building.
  • Blue Line mass rapid transit, Klang Valley, Malaysia
Our team designed a new metro rail line for Kuala Lumpur, including three stations. The project was delivered from five continents and nine different offices and was one of the first to use cloud-based BIM delivery, allowing for enhanced coordination with other disciplines to reduce risk in delivery.
  • Brooklyn Navy Yard masterplan, New York, USA
The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation and Office of Management & Budget asked us as prime consultant to assess the conditions and recommend solutions for the Navy Yard. The masterplan aims to ensure the site can continue to grow and attract new businesses by upgrading facilities to meet energy efficiency and flood resilience requirements, both today and in the future.
  • Renewable energy transmission programme, Scotland
We designed the convertor stations for Scottish & Southern Electricity Networks’ high voltage direct current project, which will facilitate the transmission of generated renewable energy between the Shetland Islands and mainland Scotland. The structures and cladding must withstand battering by the fierce winter storms that sweep Scotland while meeting strict requirements for electrical safety, ventilation, airtightness and fire suppression.
