Renewables and energy storage

Powering the future.

The scale and ambition of renewable energy generation is advancing at a rapid pace. Whether you’re developing onshore or offshore wind, ground based or floating solar, or a hub that combines renewable sources with storage, technology is expanding the realms of the possible.

However, as governments across the world push for decarbonisation, supply chains are being stretched and competition is intensifying for key materials, equipment and expertise, making procurement increasingly challenging. With constrained transmission infrastructure and complex regulatory environments, you need the right expertise to navigate all these challenges and deliver projects that create a dispatchable and resilient energy supply to the grid.

What can we do for you?

We work closely with energy firms, owners, EPC contractors, investors, lenders and governments to plan, develop and construct renewable energy programmes and projects worldwide. We’re at the forefront of technology innovation for renewables and have a world leading capability in offshore engineering.

We can help you:

Plan with confidence

We’ll assess the feasibility of your project from every angle, helping you to choose the right site, technologies and delivery model, provide clarity on the economics of your investment, and win approval from regulators and planning authorities.

Design optimally

We’ll ensure you have the right configuration of assets to maximise generation, meet grid and regulatory requirements, and produce a reliable and resilient supply of energy.

Deliver with certainty

We help you navigate technical, regulatory and environmental challenges to manage construction on time and within budget.

Uncover hidden value

Using technical innovation and creative thinking, we can maximise the benefits of projects so that you can achieve the best results for your investors, bill payers, communities and the planet.

Services we provide

Engineering renewable energy and storage solutions

We’re experts in wind, solar, hybrid renewables and energy storage, and we have complementary expertise in hydropower, electrical networks, hydrogen and fuel networks. Whatever your requirements, our experienced multidisciplinary teams can support you at every stage of the project lifecycle.

Our experience

We have worked on programmes supplying more than 160GW of renewable energy worldwide, including some of the world’s landmark projects, and are helping solve major energy challenges needing novel solutions. Some of our recent work has included:

  • Block Island wind farm, Rhode Island, USA
We were the lenders' technical advisor and owner’s engineer for the first offshore wind farm in the USA, located near Rhode Island. We provided feasibility studies, conceptual design, cost estimates, public relations and permitting services for the 30MW project.
  • Future Port Talbot masterplan, UK
We acted for Associated British Ports to develop a masterplan showing how Port Talbot could be transformed to a prime hub for floating offshore wind, contributing to the decarbonisation and socioeconomic regeneration of South Wales.
  • Hydrogen transport hub, Tees Valley, UK
We developed a masterplan for the UK’s first ever multimodal hydrogen transport hub for the Department for Transport. The hub comprises a set of facilities including green hydrogen production, storage, distribution and refuelling stations from which existing and evolving transport networks and services can feed.
  • Kidston renewable energy hub, Australia
We provided an optimisation study and detailed designs for this project to transform the former gold mining settlement of Kidston in Queensland into a renewable energy hub with a 250MW pumped storage plant at its core.
  • Kitakyushu Hibikinada offshore wind project, Japan
We provided technical due diligence, including risk assessment, for the largest privately financed offshore wind energy project in Japan, giving investors and project developers confidence in the plans and preparing the way for delivery.
  • Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum solar park, Dubai, UAE
We provided technical advisory services to the Dubai Electricity & Water Authority on a 950MW concentrated solar power and photovoltaic hybrid solar project in Dubai, the largest CSP project with the largest storage system globally.
  • North Sea wind power hub, Europe
We’ve developed conceptual and outline designs, cost estimates, 3D visualisations and schedules for this flagship programme to create an offshore hub linking wind energy systems across northern Europe and enabling hydrogen production.
  • Rancho Seco solar facility, USA
Built on the site of a decommissioned nuclear power plant, the Rancho Seco solar plant generates more than 22,000MWh of power each year. Our team provided load flow analysis for various generation levels, a short circuit study, a cable sizing and ampacity study, arc flash analysis, and more.
  • Tarbela hydropower and solar facility, Pakistan
Working with Pakistan’s Water & Power Development Authority and the World Bank, we have provided design consultancy and contract management services for the expansion of Pakistan’s biggest hydropower facility and the addition of a 325MW floating solar photovoltaics installation to help meet peak demand and increase access to renewable energy.
