The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across several sectors including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation and transmission & distribution networks. Together we provide integrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle – from concept and design to construction and operations, to decommissioning or repowering and life extension. Together with our clients, we’re helping to deliver the energy transition globally. 

 

Job Overview

The Energy Unit, specifically the Transmission & Distribution division are recruiting for a Technical Services Director for HV (High Voltage) Cable Systems  reporting directly to divisional general manager.

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  1. Leadership and Management: 

  • Oversee the HV Cable systems technical services team/delivery, ensuring efficient and effective operations. 

  • Develop strategic plans for the delivery of HV cable system projects and monitor the delivery to ensure technical compliance. 

  • Lead client engagement for major/complex project deliveries for HV cable system services. 

  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources for major/complex project deliveries for HV cable system services. 

  • Lead, manage and grow the HV cable systems consultancy team supervising and mentoring a team of HV cable system engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment. 

  1. Technical Expertise: 

  • Provide technical leadership/design assurance and expert technical advice for HV cable system design (HVAC/HVDC onshore and offshore cable systems) 

  • Ensure focus on technical excellence is to the forefront of our HV cable systems team development. Delivery of internal training/Development of expertise in newly emerging technologies. 

  • Membership of industry recognised bodies like CIGRE with accreditation to client system such as TP authorisation accreditation/CDAE accreditation etc 

  • Developing and overseeing the strategic direction for HV cable systems design delivery models, ensuring alignment with industry standards and regulatory requirements 

  1. Innovation: 

  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in HV cable systems technology and integrating new technologies to improve our cable system design efficiency and performance. 

  • Implement innovative solutions to improve system performance and reliability. 

  • Promote continuous improvement within the technical services team. 

  1. Project Management: 

  • Lead large-scale HV cable system projects from conception to completion including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation across all stages of the project life cycle from concept design/FEED through to detailed design. 

  • Coordinate/collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of the design of HV cable systems into wider project scopes including substations, converter stations, offshore developments and grid network connections. 

  • Monitor project progress and implement corrective actions as needed. 

  1. Client and Stakeholder Engagement: 

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for major clients and stakeholders, building and maintaining strong relationships. 

Candidate specifications

 

Experience:

  • Significant experience in HV cable systems engineering, including leadership roles.
  • Proven track record in managing large-scale HV cable system projects (HVAC/HVDC onshore and offshore).
  • Extensive experience in client engagement and stakeholder management for complex projects.

Skills:

  • Proficient in project management software and tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera).
  • Strong technical expertise in HV cable system design and implementation.
  • Excellent strategic planning and organizational skills.
  • Advanced problem-solving and analytical abilities.

Soft Skills:

  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with a focus on mentoring and developing team members.
  • High level of emotional intelligence and ability to foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying complex technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Innovative mindset with a continuous improvement approach.

Certifications and Memberships:

  • Membership in industry-recognized bodies such as CIGRE.
  • Relevant accreditations (e.g., TP authorization, CDAE accreditation).

Technical Expertise:

  • In-depth knowledge of HV cable systems technology and emerging trends.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership and design assurance.
  • Experience in developing and implementing quality control measures and risk management strategies.

  • Proven track record of integrating new technologies to enhance system performance and efficiency.
